I apologize that I don't accept stupid. Somehow, my friends don't find it a problem. Possibly because they're not stupid.

I've said stupid things on the boneyard many a time. when called on it, I try to be responsible and say "my bad." What I don't do is triple down, pretend that I can give words whatever meanings I want to and then attack the person who pointed out my mistake. But hey, you do you.

I'm done with this discussion so take whatever shots you want.

I know we can’t take them all but this Israeli kid is cooking so far in his FIBA U19 pool. Sheesh. I wonder if Luke took a look here. Will contribute in a big way at Purdue next season.

Calhoun’s breakout in early 90s was made possible by 2 Israeli standouts, Nadav Henefeld and Doran Sheffield. No one expected either of them to be great until they showed up on campus and dominated.

I don’t watch a lot of basketball pre college, but from what I have seen in this tournament I don’t recall any UConn freshman recruit ever looking as impressive as Furphy has looked in this tournament. My mind is blown by how polished he looks.

Reibe also looks good, but battling muscle bound titans 4 years older than him, might be an adjustment.

Would someone please summarize how Reibe and Furphy are doing in this tourney? I'm too lazy to go through 18 pages. Thanks

He'll play backup 5 the vast majority of the time, although I suspect he will see some spot time at the 4 depending on the situation (fouls, opponents, etc.) Unlike the last three years, Riebe actually has the skills to play the 4. Depending on how he develops and what our future recruiting looks like, its also possible he could be the 4 down the road.

Here we go. The argument on double bigs is starting early. No way he plays the 4. Can’t risk him and Reed getting into foul trouble and we have others to back up the 4.

the Nadav-Sheffer comparison is apt. It is how I described Cam after the Stonehill game last year, as you couldnt say "cam-like" yet lol. The poise, composure, unselfishness, leadership on court, making others better.

Just knows how to play

Australia is not a very composed team, Furphy stands out easily. He's shooting the ball well and overall the best player on Australia. They do have a rugby player playing the four who is quite athletic and a wrecking ball, but he looks like he never really played basketball before sometimes. He is the fourth highest scorer in the tournament through four games. He has lead the team to a 3-1 record with the sole loss to the US. If I had a complaint, it would be that he sometimes throws passes crosscourt that are too long to make it without the defender intercepting the pass. Not lazy passes, not out of control, just way too far to have a chance of making it.

Germany has kind of the opposite problem, their guards are steady but not stars. They lack any explosiveness, and I don't just mean athletically. Reibe had a rough first game with foul trouble but still has been better every game since leading Germany to 4-0. He has scored the following 6, then 15, then 20, then 25. Has shown some real touch on his jumpshot, hook, floater and an assortment of layups. He hasn't dunked it as much as you would like. And his teammates eat all the boards but he boxes out decently and is Germany's best interior defender by far.

They are playing to get to the semi-finals. Winner plays Slovenia, who Germany beat in the group round (this was the game Reibe was in foul trouble).

Nadav was the final piece of the puzzle in 89/90. Chris Smith, Scott Burrell and Tate George all went on to the NBA. John Gwynn was offfense off the bench and Lyman DePriest was defense off the bench. They were very good college role players. The center position was very average with Sellers and Cyrulik. Nadav was the blueprint for Karaban but was a much better passer and he averaged almost 4 steals a game, incredible in the passing lanes.

BTW Scheffer was not on the 89/90 team. Sceffer and another freshman named Ray Allen showed up in 93/94
 
Reibe with a nice pass to a cutter (who Furphy was guarding). Furphy was off a bit too far, but reacted quickly and got a good contest. But the guy made it anyways.

Aussies don't have the talent to compete in this one right now. Too little BBIQ outside of Furphy. Someone's gotta get a bucket and run some actions. Too much Furphy jacking because no one can get their own

Rooting for the Aussies. If they can make the finals, Furphy could get MVP.

Am I nuts or did the refs miss a double dribble with about 8 minutes in the second quarter? Opponent tried to steal, but never got it. Aussie player recovered it, picked up dribble, then put it on the floor two seconds later.
