Could you imagine Dee Kantor being the ref tonight and waving off another Caroline basket claiming she traveled when she did not. Still upset about that call that cost us the game in South Bend.
How does DeMayo ALWAYS get the UConn games?Referees are: Cynthia Brooks, Cameron Inouye and Dennis DeMayo.
Could be much worse. They are letting them play and that's great, especially for the good guys!Referees are: Cynthia Brooks, Cameron Inouye and Dennis DeMayo.
And they were terrible. Refusal to make any calls, then total BS calls. They lost control early.Referees are: Cynthia Brooks, Cameron Inouye and Dennis DeMayo.
Refusal to make any calls.
I'm upset with the inconsistent halves. You can't let most everything pass in the 1st half and then call it tighter in the 2nd. Still it could have been much worse.
It is not a matter of games being called evenly in the number of fouls or anything else. It is the type of fouls called, it is when they are called, it is how calling a game one way or another, tightly or loosely favors one team over another.
Phantom is absolutely right that McBride had happy feet and traveled when she scored the basket around a tremendous D effort by Caroline. You cannot give a played an advantage over another in a situation like that. Caroline had her covered like a book while not giving the officials any excuse to blow the whistle but the officials bail out McBride with a non call on the travel. Caroline had her completely locked up and the clock was ticking.
At the opposite end on Diggins drive UConn is penalized by another non call when playing perfect defense. Kelly and Caroline both front Diggins and she has no where to go and so Diggins goes up and charges into CD. Call the charge and the game is over, call the block and we see if Diggins can handle the nerves as well as the other Indiana kid. But neither call is made and with UCONN defenders now on the floor or blocked by bodies Novosel ends up largely unchallenged and puts in a prayer. Making the charge or blocking call was a vastly better choice.
They do as always impact it and in this case far closer to costing the game than most. No game is usually won or lost on a single play but the closer to the end of the game the bigger the impact. Those two calls and 4 points altered the likelihood of overtime. UConn, however, did not play well in overtime. Most officiating impacts it not in the way many folks usually expect. WCBB officiating is just too inconsistent that it is impossible for players to know how to play.Blah blah blah. We wanted a lightly officiated game and we got it.
The officials did not decide the game.
