Has anyone heard who the refs will be tonight, both for our game and Baylor/Stanford? Thanks!

Sally Bell (coming out of retirement), Bonita Spence, Dennis DeMayo and Dee Kantner. They will have one more than the usual crew of three because of the anticipated physical play - and they still won't get the majority of calls right.

Could you imagine Dee Kantor being the ref tonight and waving off another Caroline basket claiming she traveled when she did not. Still upset about that call that cost us the game in South Bend.

Officials for the game are Scotty MacGregor, Jonathan MacLeod, and Catherine Stewart Knox. All good Scottish Calvinists and strict adherents of the law. There will be no free passes for Novosel without detailed explanation of the Heidelberg Catechism.

How soon we forget June Courteau. All the coaches love her.

I thought that was a male ref who called that one...? Yeah that was a pretty awful call.

Could be much worse. They are letting them play and that's great, especially for the good guys!

good in the first half...sounds like they listened to Doris Burke's pleadings for more UConn fouls in the second half

Screwed again. All those non calls. And how is it that Stef had all those fouls yet Peters and Mallory are all fine...

And they were terrible. Refusal to make any calls, then total BS calls. They lost control early.

I thought they were overall pretty good. They let them play and the tougher team won.

I thought overall they did what they could in an incredibly difficult game to call. Both teams are very physical and get all kinds of hands to the ball. Add in the charge/block calls and it is just very difficult. UConn may have got the short end of some calls, but they were also fortunate on plenty of others. There were big momentum calls, but I don't think either team really benefited. Notre Dame earned the victory.

I won't argue about who got the better end of the stick, as Stefanie took advantage of the "let em play" and committed a couple of bad fouls that put her on the bench. I agree it was a very tough game to call, but certainly did not want Dennis DeMayo doing it, regardless of how it went. I thought his terrible outing in Kingston on Sunday not only eliminated him from Tuesday's game, but the Final Four as well.

In addition to the endless non calls that could have gotten many players in foul trouble [Note my national flag blue glasses saw lots of ND fouls on their offensive glass when UConn rebounded the ball]. how about a couple of easy ones they messed up that could have been critical. 1. Check the replay of the last basket of the half and you should see the pitter patter of little feet incl. a moved pivot foot before the shot. 2. How about the scrum for a loose ball in the 2nd half with Tiffany, when even if you forget the obvious foul not being called, I ask where and when did Notre Dame have their hand or finger on the ball? Instead, it's a held ball and Notre Dame ball - Wow Mr. DeMayo! 3. I'm not positive on this one, but one rule I hate is the time out being allowed when it is still loose - shortly after #2 above, ND called one of them in UConn's end. I would like to see those only being called by the player, as they would need to establish possession and then call the TO.

Again, I'm only citing a few that went against UConn as examples of simple calls that three of the so called best officials deemed capable of calling a national semi final missed, along with arguably dozens more. Not a proud night IMHO for those three refs or the NCAA.

I'm upset with the inconsistent halves. You can't let most everything pass in the 1st half and then call it tighter in the 2nd. Still it could have been much worse.

I don't recall it being all that tight -- I believe UConn had just 7 fouls in the 2nd half.

It is not a matter of games being called evenly in the number of fouls or anything else. It is the type of fouls called, it is when they are called, it is how calling a game one way or another, tightly or loosely favors one team over another.

Phantom is absolutely right that McBride had happy feet and traveled when she scored the basket around a tremendous D effort by Caroline. You cannot give a played an advantage over another in a situation like that. Caroline had her covered like a book while not giving the officials any excuse to blow the whistle but the officials bail out McBride with a non call on the travel. Caroline had her completely locked up and the clock was ticking.

At the opposite end on Diggins drive UConn is penalized by another non call when playing perfect defense. Kelly and Caroline both front Diggins and she has no where to go and so Diggins goes up and charges into CD. Call the charge and the game is over, call the block and we see if Diggins can handle the nerves as well as the other Indiana kid. But neither call is made and with UCONN defenders now on the floor or blocked by bodies Novosel ends up largely unchallenged and puts in a prayer. Making the charge or blocking call was a vastly better choice.
