If it will make you feel better, Anderson Espinoza is really struggling at the A level. With the Padres Fort Wayne team he is 0-3 with a 5.79 ERA in 6 games. Overall for the season he is 5-11 with a 4.71 ERA and a high WHIP.
On the other hand, Jake Cosart is off to a great start with Salem (Advanced A). He was just promoted from Single A Greenville. Overall, he is 4-1 with an ERA of 1.73. He has 92 K's in just 62 innings pitching out of the pen and has hit 99 on the gun.

I think you gotta throw the kid a bone when you see he's 7 months away from being 19 years old. His thing is pure potential (in years), but he's definitely nowhere close to the majors right now.

That last bit is probably why Dombrowski was willing to give him up.

Two reason that I see. One, managers have almost an obsession with the righty-righty and lefty-lefty matchups and two, September call ups allow you to do that. A good relief pitcher should be able to get anyone out and September call ups should be dumped or at least modified.
