If you think our success isn't linked to the money football and MBB bring in then I have a bridge to sell you. Our conference affiliation will be absolutely critical in the future. It will start effecting recruiting, if it hasn't already. There is a reason Old Dominion and LATech aren't relevant anymore.
I'm trying to find a way to say this that doesn't come across as completely snarky, but you have completely misread my post.
WBB isn't driving conference realignment. Football, and to a much lesser extent, MBB are the driving forces. And yes, the Big East is in an extremely weak position in terms of football and a much weakened position in terms of MBB. This is exactly why, to my point, UConn would and hopefully will leave treadmarks on its way out of the Big East when (hopefully) given the opportunity.
So again, given that ND is doing something UConn would be more than happy to do, that WBB is in no way shape or form driving Notre Dame's decision, and that WBB has precious few meaningful rivalries and those there are need to be preserved for the good of the sport, I fully support and encourage an annual game between Uconn and ND on an ongoing basis.
Comparing Louisiana Tech and ODU to UConn's situation is just silly. There are many reasons they are no longer powerhouses. By the way, Texas and USC are no longer powerhouses either despite being dominant in the 1980s and still belonging to power conferences. UConn's position in WBB is secure as long as Geno is at the helm and as invested and motivated as he's always been. Once that ceases to be the case, all bets are off, irrespective of UConn's conference affiliation.
