Reason we Lost IMO

The main reasons we lost are
1. They are better than us
2. They are more experienced than us
3. They have several really good athletes
4.They were playing at home
5.They shot the ball like the Globetrotters against the Washington Generals except we play more D than the Generals
6. They were able to create separation that proved fatal when AD went down for 5 minutes.

Frankly, this is the first game in 3 weeks where the team resembled the team that wound up taking it to West Virginia. We are young, the roster has been disjointed and the coaching has been disjointed. Maybe this game will settle them down.

I think we played a great game in general today. I enjoyed everything but the last few minutes. But a good number of those points and shots came when the beat our defense down the floor. And while SU made a bunch of well-defended shots, there were a bunch of poorly defended shots too.

Oh, one other note: injuries certainly contributed to both our defensive problems (watch Lambs D late in that game...he looked ginger) and to the offense stalling out when Drummond went out.

I think SN played fairly well on defense, Boatright was abused.

I agree with everything else but a few other things that I think were the worst:

1. Whether by design or by fatigue Lamb stopped cutting/moving on offense and stood at the three point line for the last 5-6 minutes of the game. UConn was down 2 when this started. I'm not sure if it was Lamb's laziness/fatigue but I blame the coaching staff. Blaney either told him to do that or saw it and didn't make him do anything else.
2. Blaney did a pretty horrid job on the sideline at the end of the game. UConn was down 2 with 6:28 to go and lost by 18. That is inexcusable as a coach. It wasn't like Cuse's defense was much better, the players weren't moving on offense and the passing stopped.
3. Drummond/UConn's momentum disappeared when Drummond got injured and he was slower and ineffective when he came back. Drummond was dominating the game when that happened.
4. Daniels didn't play a minute, I'm not sure why. I see playing Giffey/Tyler/Roscoe more but not playing him at all was odd.

I hope that you would also agree that there should be a #5.

5. SN, JL and AD are all tired. Perhaps very tired. (We need to get more players involved. At the current rate of PT. for the starting 5, none of them will have any legs for the BET.)

Sorry not buying it. If a team gets spanked on an 18-1 run in the final 6 minutes there is some sccountability from the losing team as well.

I think there is a good chance that Daniels transfers too. He is not playing much at all and no post season next year makes staying less appealing.

As far as the game is concerned, I think Syracuse could have pulled away any time they wanted to. They reminded me of Uconn '99. Khalid and Rip would look at each other at the end of the game and say, "Winning time." Syracuse is deep, experienced and talented and right now Uconn is no match for them.

18-1 run...............yeah there is accountability. It's called not making shots as you scramble to get back in the game because you're behind by 8 after 2 Scoop Jardine 3 balls.....and knowing you need to score basically every possession everyone is rushing the basket for misses and off. rebounds leading to runouts.....then your guards go for the steal, why, because you're down 10 with 2 minutes to go and they have yet another runout......it's called domino at that point it happens..........if that's all you can look at from the game I feel for you!!

Whatever. You think our team this year is realistically going to go into SU and upset them? What would SU's accountability have been for losing to us, since you want to make us accountable? Nobody says both teams on the floor don't contribute to a result, but all things being equal in hoops, the much better team - and this year SU is much better than we are whether or not UConn fans like it - wins an overwhelming number of times. The team ran out of gas to a team that IS better. What this game hopefully did is restore some of the lost confidence the kids had to think that maybe they can knock off a really good team.

Our offense played a really good game. Except for Drummond going out, too many turnovers, and lamb's continued slump, we did about as well as could be expected. Syracuse IS the better team, but we have the personnel to tear up their zone, and we proved it. We CAN beat this team. A bunch of things went right for them, at their place, for them to beat us.

Yeah I understand the snowball effect but look back at the start of your reasoning for the snowball effect. Time and again this team trips on itself and after 20+ games it's for the same reason. Why was Jardine allowed o make those. I remember a game back in the AJ price era where UCONN lost to a final 4 Georgetown 3 on a Roy Hibbert bank shot. The loss hurt but that happens. What is mind boggling is if you know a person makes those 3s and you continue not to address it.

Did I see improvement? Sure. But sorry if I don't show the same level of contentment with the loss.

Did I think we had a realistic shot? Sure. Why not? We had the pieces to physically match up. Much of the problem was mental (ie confidence). You always hope the lightbulb will turn on this game. As to Cuse's accountability if they lost, I really don't care. As to the teams accountability, maybe a realization that some things they do don't work and need to change. Maybe a realizations of what their short comings are and make adjustments. Maybe having most of this addressed before February rolls around. Hey the team did it last year in March but I think what happened last year was pretty extraordinary and hard to repeat. Don't get me wrong, I'd be extremely happy if they did it.

We lost because Syracuse is a better team. They are a legit Top 3 team, and despite all the talent on the UConn roster it is a mediocre team. Sometimes the whole isn't equal to the sum of its' parts.

Jardine wasn't "allowed to make those" he just made them, with his own hands, not Lamb's, not Bazz;s and not Boats....he stepped up and made those shots......and if youhave the choice of anyone on the court taking those shots, because some IS going to get a shot, it's him. He's a 31% guy and he made them, good for him. They're up 2 at the time remember, better off a hand-in-the-face 3 from the deep corner or a jump hook or take from Fair or Joseph? This team is not AJ's teams or anyone elses they are young so if your expectations are more than they should be after losses to RU, Cincy and ND then sobeit. If they played like they did yesterday in any of those games they win period. That's the point here!!!! Now maybe they grow from this..........

The only point that mattered was if AD doesn't turn his ankle this game would have gone down to the wire AND Melo would have fouled out, and maybe the Boat goes the length of the floor with 5 sec left, slams it, and we win.

I believe the thread was "reasons we lost IMO". So your point of emphasis in your last response might be for a different thread.

The point I was making was that mistakes from the past are never corrected. There are those instances that's unexpected (that was the basis of the Hibbert example) but for the ones where the players should've known better, that's a different story.
