I'm not a huge fan of the RPI, but kenpom is also imperfect. They credit Louisville for drumming the South Florida's and Temple's of the world by hundreds of points, when they're only 3-4 against the top 100. They also only have one top 40 win. I have to agree with Nelson on this one, at least until they show us how good they are in the coming couple weeks (they play @ Cincy, @ SMU, @ Memphis, and vs. UConn).

OK here's some old school wisdom from a man whose 'long time' wife is not a basketball fan either.

All that matters is that she likes loves you liking loving basketball and gets/stays out of your way (e.g. no shopping, housework, weddings, parties during game time). That's the key, its her other categories that are more important.

Spot on. I'll add this, volunteer for stuff at other times, to set up the situation where you aren't pressed into a conflict. Lastly, when it really comes down to it, cave when necessary. The good news is that Watch ESPN on a mobile phone is your friend. I didn't have that luxury in the past.

Louisville has 3 wins over Top 100 competition. The RPI is pretty much spot on.

Louisville is 3-4 vs the RPI top 50 (same as UConn) and has not played a single game against a team ranked 51-100 (unlike UConn, 5-0), due in part to a weak OOC schedule AND a weak bottom half of the AAC. This is why UConn is ahead in the RPI. Uconn is behind 'ville in the BPI and KenPom because 'ville's worst loss is to Memphis (mid 30's) and haven't lost a game yet by more than single digits while UConn has lost to #170 Houston.

I'm not defending their schedule because it is pretty weak, and that reflects in the RPI, since RPI only places 25% of its score on your record, the same weight given to the majority of teams you never play (your opponents opponents), while the other 50% is based on the record of the teams you do play. IMHO, RPI is the least telling of the common metrics when rating a team.

Bottom line, RPI evaluates heavily on who you play and who they play and lightly on your record. KenPom and BPI is more balanced as they evaluate not only what the RPI takes into consideration, but also the score (with diminishing returns the larger the point disparity).
