Specifically, Georgetown, Maryland, Rutgers, UConn and Villanova are heavily involved and were out to see Samuels during the high school season. The five-star said Arkansas, Louisville, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky and Tennessee were some of the schools out to see him during the live session in Memphis. Samuels has a busy June filled with a variety of camps, so he’ll be looking to set up official visits more towards the fall.

UConn: “I’ve been to UConn for my sister. So I haven’t really been on the boy’s side. But it’ll be a nice visit on the boy’s side of it.” Samuels sister, Qadence Samuels, has spent the past two seasons at UConn before transferring to NC State this offseason.

The staff knows what they're doing, but I don't see it here. Hope I'm wrong, but all the games I've seen of him show all flash, no motor. From his AAU team, Smith and Moody (who fits the Newton/Demary role) show way more upside in UConn's system to me. In fact, based on the way he phrased it, it sounds like UConn may already be losing interest

Hard to imagine he comes here after his sister transferred out. I wouldn't waste much time on recruiting him if I was the UConn staff. Limited resources and time needs to be used smartly.

His sister transferred because she wasn't playing much on the women's team. Not sure what that would have to do with him playing for the men's team though. Unless she just hated the school and told her brother not to go there.

The only thing I can think of is any parents or mentors have sour feelings about the sisters time here and letting that bleed over to our side. But that seems like a silly reason to not pick us from his perspective.

When I was a kid I would never listen to my sister and would be more apt to do the opposite as her. :)

Qadence doesn’t hate UConn and remains friends with players on both bball teams. Geno is recruiting younger sister Qandace

Thanks. As I expected. I'm assuming she just wants more playing time.

Qadence was not a super highly rated recruit. She was more of a filler for Geno and played more as a freshmen due to team injuries than she would have otherwise. Her younger sister and brother are much more highly rated recruits than she was. Amazingly talented family to produce three D1 players. Driveway pickup games must've been fun.

It seemed that his sister loved her time @ UConn. It was just a question of numbers and she was too far down in the rotation to get any playing time.

Day 2 at NBA Top 100 Camp.

3. 4-Star SF Qayden Samuels

When it comes to simply scoring the basketball, few in this camp do it as smoothly as Qayden Samuels. The 6-foot-6 lefty plays with natural balance and has a smooth shooting touch with deep range.

Samuels has finished with 25-plus points in three of his four games to this point. While he does not put much pressure on the rim, he is able to consistently create space for clean shooting opportunities. Samuels has also rebounded the ball well in his area. The balance is intriguing for him, he does not often get knocked off his base, but it is the shooting touch that is the genesis of his success.

Samuels scored 27 and 25 points in his two games on day two.

Day 1 at NBA Top 100 Camp.

6. 4-Star SF Qayden Samuels

As simply stated as it can possibly be, Qayden Samuels puts the ball in the bucket. Listed at 6-foot-6, the lefty has touch and a strong frame that allows him to create an advantage with leverage.

Samuels finished his first game with a day high 33 points. He was 5-9 from three and 13-21 from the field. He is going to continue finding ways to contribute to the game when he is not scoring, especially on the defensive end. But Samuels also added 10 rebounds and 3 assists to his stat line for the first game. His offense is set up with his jump shot, and he is able to attack advantages in straight lines. He scored it.

Interesting that Tour hasn't been mentioned in their top 10 or the 15 honorable mentions either day.

Hurley was watching Samuels play today at the NBA Top 100 Camp. So I'll assume the interest is real.
Where did you see we watched him, that's interesting? Storrs Central said he wasn't on the staff's list of guys they were gonna watch this week

He just hasn't taken that many shots, to be honest. I watched the game vs Team Taylor because the stats never went up. He was extremely effective with the ball in his hands, but he wasn't playing a ton of minutes and playing pretty unselfish.

My first 5 minutes watching Samuels and he has impacted the game scoring, and rebounding, on every possession. He and Toure seem like the same players to me. I have felt like Toure is the crown jewel but just a few minutes of game time and it is clear Samuels is as good.

Yeah if Toure is the priority then I can't see them taking Samuels also.

Four-Star SG Qayden Samuels: UConn’s Danny Hurley, Syracuse’s Red Autry, assistants from Georgetown, Texas

Could they have been watching someone else on his team or someone on the other team?

His game isn't suited to All-Star events for sure. I was wondering if he was injured or something.

Maybe Hurley feels he's not a good fit?

Qayden Samuels was the camp's leading scorer and was looking to score on essentially every touch. That is very representative of who he is as a player right now. He's a lethal scorer, capable of rattling off points and making tough shots in bunches, but he is almost solely focused on scoring and rarely looking to pass the ball. Now, what we've seen this season in the EYBL is that he's upped the level of his defensive commitment. This week, we saw him do the same on the glass, which adds another element to his attack.

Hoping he comes to Storrs or goes to Lawrence. Seems like a nice player. But this doesn't sound like either coach to me.

“I’m looking for a coach that will trust me and let me play as a freshman, let me play through mistakes,” Samuels said. “That’s the only way to get better and learn.”
