Providence Post Game Thread

We played a lot better when we let Silas just go and create.
Good things happen when he gets into the paint. First off, He’s the only guy that can create a shot for someone when we need it. Second, he’s our only good FT shooter that consistently gets into the paint.

Did they have a beer night or discount special on beers tonight because it was UConn?
honestly not sure but don’t think so.

Though the student section behind the basket threw like 100 beers up in the air in celebration of that sick layup with three minutes left thinking that it sealed the W for them.

Hilarious how that worked out for them.

I went from pissed off and disgusted to elated in the span of a few minutes.

Hopefully this is a wakeup call that if you play mediocre ball and the other team is hot
from three you can lose, even if they are not at your level.
I didn't think we played mediocre. PC was just on fire. They have some shot makers who made shots. Did you see that Mela around the world reverse layup? Insane! They were playing out of their minds!

Did you hear the end???

Danny actually said that “they have as good of a chance as anyone” to make the BET finals. He reads the BY and knows our inside jokes!!!!

All joking aside he's gotta read this now and then. If he's checking UConn twitter he's doing the same here.

It was so much more - bouncing passes off Reibe's feet, not boxing out, so many mistakes all over the place. He's simply a liability outside of hunting shots. Lacks intangibles. I've said it for awhile, but I would not be surprised if his time on the floor shrinks as Mullins settles in and Ross/Stew absorb time at the 3, shifting Mullins to the 2. It was pretty clear tonight who Dan Hurley trusts when it matters.
Let's not overreact to one game. Solo has been our best player. He is rounding into a great all-around player. He had a bad game and Hurley probably made the right move benching him. I say probably because who knows what Ball would have done in the end of the game. I am a little curious how he will respond to this benching. You are right that it does send a message that Hurley doesn't trust him, at least in that moment. We will see. I'm not giving up on Ball as a starter and key player for us. But there are just so many minutes to go around.

I think he deserves his own thread after that performance because we haven't seen many like it in our history.

He's not our most talented player but I think he's our best player because he does it on both ends. He's incredible on defense and one of the best guard defenders I can remember coming through here as long as he's not fouling.
Exactly "... as long as he's not fouling."

Recorded the game so I cud enjoy it uninterrupted. Just finished watching. What a game. Demary Mullins Reed balled out in that order. One of most satisfying big east wins I can remember in a while. We never win these types of games- 4 guys had 20 plus points. Not even including ball. Hurley stayed with the hot rotation with ball on bench and it worked. Crazy

First of all I was dreading the PC fans storming the court lol… thanks to Kim English for not being a real good coach. But thanks Dan for being a great coach when it matters.

Silas, even Tristen never had a night like that. Tremendous, if that’s our guy most often the rest of the way I like our chances.

Mullins, break out party? Really good offensive game and to me an underrated defender. Enjoy the next 3 months of him!

Tarris, tale of 2 halves. Weak going to the hole 1st half but became more aggressive 2nd half and finished.

Alex, strange game. Not real good for a while and haven’t seen numbers but he didn’t rebound well. But OT, different guy nice finish.

Solo, potentially his worst in the uni…. Had 4-5 rebounds that were his with box outs or aggressive moves to the ball, didn’t get it done and couldn’t sniff a hoop 2nd half. Dan Hurley did a great job keeping him on the pine for the last 8-9 minutes of the game. That’s fine he’ll bounce back he’s too good.

Stewie was solid, real good at times. Numbers won’t jump out but played good D and hit the boards hard keeping many caroms alive. Big 3 down the stretch in regulation and a great pass to Reed as well.

Malachi didn’t get the usual minutes because Silas was so good and not in foul trouble.

Great win, unexpected for sure by the 3-4 minutes left time. But English was playing checkers down the stretch and Dan was playing chess.
