Protest Songs

"...and go home to my Lord and be free...." Somewhere in the middle. That simple line always hits me like a sledge hammer.

Arlo again, with an updated version of 'When a Soldier Makes It Home'

Wooden Ships, three great musicians, Stills guitar opening is stunningly crisp.

I can't quite tell if this is a protest song, a parody of a protest song, or just a parody of the media. Supposedly a Verve executive saw (or heard a demo) of the Mothers performing this and signed them without hearing another note. He was expecting a somewhat bluesy album and was shocked when he got an avant-garde/doo-wop/parody album.

.-.
And then there is the counter point song....

Fortunately, this received little airtime when released in 1966. Much better that Jan and Dean be remembered for hits such as Surf City, Little Old Lady from Pasadena, etc. I was pleased to learn that Dean refused to be part of this song.

Definitely a tone deaf release for the time.
