I can't quite tell if this is a protest song, a parody of a protest song, or just a parody of the media. Supposedly a Verve executive saw (or heard a demo) of the Mothers performing this and signed them without hearing another note. He was expecting a somewhat bluesy album and was shocked when he got an avant-garde/doo-wop/parody album.

Fortunately, this received little airtime when released in 1966. Much better that Jan and Dean be remembered for hits such as Surf City, Little Old Lady from Pasadena,etc. I was pleased to learn that Dean refused to be part of this song.

Definitely a tone deaf release for the time.
