Yeah I agree. Not sure we will have a lot of minutes between McNeeley, Stewart and if Karaban comes back for Ross to play. I can only see Ross getting more minutes if Karaban doesn't come back and we bring in a more developmental piece to replace him.
 
I'm going with a starting lineup as follows:

PG: Hass
SG: Mahaney(I think Hurley will want two good ball handlers running the offense like this year with Newton and Cam).
SF: McNeeley
PF:Stewart(Karban if he comes back)
C:Johnson(Reed if Johnson doesn't improve his strength and skillset to no foul guys who can bully past him)

Off the Bench:
Nowell
Reed
Ball
Ross or Transfer?(I wonder if Ross is ready to play big bench minutes this year as he showed very little his Freshman year)
WIldcard: is Abraham(If he can shoot at a decent clip I can see him jumping over Ross as the first foward off the bench due to how athletic and strong he already is. He has an NBA body already).

I don’t get why some posters are freaking out about Ross not being included in the rotation. Samson didn’t play at all his first 2 years but became the 7th man on a chip team as a junior and is now battling to be a starter as a senior. That’s how it’s supposed to work. I can see the same happening for Ross.

I agree and unless he is shooting at a very high rate from 3 which we didn't see he would be even a bigger liability on the defensive side than Karaban or Stewart(Who I both feel can hold their own and least provide consistent offense). I'm not sold on Ross yet as he hasn't shown anything to warrant that yet. He came in as a shooter and I know played mostly garbage time but he shot 1 for 11 .091. I know small sample size but he came in with that being his plus set. I think he will get more minutes than last year but he is going to have to really improve his shot to see consistent minutes at SF.
 
Come November Diarra is starting not an unproven/untested freshman. Nowell may even become great (and even start) but he is not where Diarra is right now. Diarra knows the offense/defensive sets, knows the coaching staff's goals, has 2 Championship rings, and was awarded the 6th man of the year award in Conference. More importantly he has the coaches and teammates trust right now.

Not sure what Nowell brings initially to match that unless posters are relying on high school film. Nowell will have time to acclimate, study and learn, ain't nothing wrong with a freshman doing that.

Big men take longer to develop and Samson was especially raw coming in. Ross should be much more ready to play. Him not doing so would be a testament to our depth, but could come at the cost of him not wanting to stick around for the following season.

Nowell has already said he doesn't mind coming off the bench if that is what is best for the team too.

UConn is trying to do something the world hasn’t seen in over half a century when ucla won its 7th in a row. Feelings will be hurt on the road to greatness.

The only other issue with Ross is he can't really be a backup as a stretch 4 since he is a string bean. So when Stewart goes to the bench I guess McNeeley will have to move over to the stretch 4 position as no way I can see Ross guarding bigger and stronger guys.
 
Karaban if gone means 5 new starters from the championship game starting lineup. Whole new team essentially.
 
I see a lot of people is going with the chalk lineup, so I'm going to shake it up.

PG: Nowell (I go back to what Hurley said at the parade, and it doesn't seem like Diarra shoo-in for the starting job. I think him and Nowell will battle it out for the job, and I just think Nowell has a better handle than Diarra, and is more NCAA ready than a lot of people expect. Diarra, along with McNeeley and Flagg, were some of the kids in the Jordan Classic, that looked like they were ready for the next level. Plus, I feel Hurley loves Diarra in that sixth man role.)

PF: Karaban (Stewie if Karaban goes pro.)
C: Reed

Ross, I think, is the biggest question mark is any projection of next year's second five. If Alex does not return, Ross must be penciled in as the backup 3, probably behind McNeeley, but we have not seen enough of him to do this with any confidence. That is why most speculation about a filling another scholarship comes down to a shooting forward.

I'm actually disappointed at our progress so far.

Assuming a roster size of 11 players, there could be 462 possible starting lineups. If we get to 12, it balloons to 792 possible starting lineups.

We can do better, Boneyarders!!!

I’m sure this has been mentioned ad nauseum throughout these threads. But how sure are we of Karaban’s return? I get the idea that he could rise up in the draft after another year, but how confident are we he actually comes back? And if he doesn’t do we just stick with this lineup or do we add in the portal? Just something to consider.

Personally, I ignore all projected lineups that include Karaban. Alex has declared for the draft ("a lifelong dream"), written a farrewell note to fans, and Dan Hurley has recruited a 5-star freshman to replace him. Looks like a sealed deal to me.

I am not among those, btw, who feel that having Alex, Stewart and McNeeley fighting for the two forward positions is "a nice problem to have." All three would be deserving major-minute starters, and it's always best to give your deserving starters starter's minutes.

I don't think Dan Hurley expects to have such a problem, and, equally relevant, I don't think Alex intends to create one.
 
Last year at this time we could easily pencil in Newton Karaban and Clingan as starters.

I don't think anyone can be assumed for next year unless AK comes back. If not, pick 4 of Diarra, Ball, Mahaney, McNeeley and Stewart and let the odd man out be the super 6th man.

I give the inside track to upperclassmen and returners.

You think McNeeley is guaranteed a starting spot if AK comes back? I wouldn't think that. Would still see a ton of minutes even if he comes off the bench.

First of all Liam is going to play SF and backup on PF he won't play SG with what we have. Diarra gets 25 minutes with Nowell who you don't have getting 15 minutes. Mahaney will get 30 at SG with Ball 10, McNeeley gets 25 at SF and Ball can back up there for 10 minutes. Stewart gets 25 at PF with McNeeley backing up there 5 minutes and Abraham/Ross 10 minutes between SF/PF. 20/20 split for Center I agree.

No way Nowell doen't play. I don't see Ross and Abraham splitting up 10 minutes depending on who is playing better and need.

Also, I'm confused you said how does Ball get 20 minutes when you have him at 20 minutes. LOL!

Thus

Diarra 25 Minutes
Nowell 15 Minutes
Mahaney 30 Minutes
Ball 20 Minutes
McNeeley 30 Minutes
Stewart 30 Minutes
Ross/Abraham 10 Minutes
Samson 20 Minutes
Reed 20 Minutes

There is a chance that Ross/Abraham don't play then I split those minutes to Diarra and Nowell. So then Diarra at 30 minutes and Nowell at 20 minutes.

Ross or Abraham. But you already have Ball at 20 minutes so those minutes will actually be going to Nowell
