Big boy teams tend to tear up the gimmicky s*** like 'Havoc' or what he's named it.

Life is easier when you're trying to humiliate a crippled major, I 'spose - karma is a bitch.

My god this board has become completely obsessed with Shaka Smart, it's getting very weird at this point. VCU ran into a bigger and better team today and got worked, it happens but don't make it out like VCU has never beaten any of the big boys.

He should have kept the margin with Akron small for strategic purposes. Let Michigan think they were weaker.

In other news, UConn women are killing Idaho 100-30, something like that.

he presses because his kids are a tier below in skill and speed. He is coaching them up to play with the big boys. today it did not work. Mich had them out skilled/talent at ever position... Calhoun did the press and run and gun to play up to the level of higher tier teams in the earlier 90's/mid 90's.. Most teams out there would be very happy with a shaka down the road (not uconn, I am sold on ollie)

yet another shaka thread:rolleyes:

It may be a bit early to state that (although I fully believe that it won't take long before this is the consensus opinion) but if Shaka's teams will need to turn the opposition over 17+ times in order to win they will always be in trouble against a team with veteran guards. It hat team also is pretty talented they could get blown out like they did today.

That they did. Ended up winning 105-37. Woulda been much worse except Idaho scored 12 points on 3 pointers in the last 3 minutes. BUT the perpetual bench warmer Buck got 10 minutes, and only 1 starter played more than 25. Additionally, UCONN stopped pressing for most of the 2nd half, and also stopped running fast breaks. They worked almost exclusively in the half court set for the last 12 minutes.

Agreed it is so dumb. Maybe the board can add 5 more because the 10 is not enough.

Also, I guess fishy either forgot or does not know(my bet) that havoc ripped apart the likes of Kansas and Georgetown. It is called match ups, educate yourself.

Just guessing guys never played the game who think it was okay to be pressing a team while up 45 with 7 minutes left..........or you played for an AH of a coach.........

From Jr Pro up you were taught certain respectful situations and that's just one of them and the level does not matter.........it's not okay and it's too bad he got drilled today I feel awful as I'm sure the Akron coach does too!

It's not just the lead. It's that you have a lead against an injured and sick team. Were Akron fully healthy, I was still have a problem with it...but not nearly as much as I do knowing that Akron never really had a chance given off the court issues.

this is stupid, people gotta chill with these unwritten rules. I will route for the mid major teams all the way in this tournament.

They are a division 1 team in the NCAA tournament. Akron never had a problem with it.

Listen, you're not changing my mind on this...you are simply repeating things already said. I'm clearly not changing you're mind.

But it's clear to me and others it's poor form to press and harry a team down 45, with no shot at coming back, that came into the game battered, injured, and sick. It's like leaving you're starters in a game under a minute left when the other team has their walk-ons in.

You have your opinion I have mine I really dont want to get into an argument over a team were not even a fan of or playing against. I was routing for VCU because they are a mid major but I have no emotional attachment for any of these teams.

The fact this upsets people so much is sad, really sad. He stopped pressing with 10 min to go and took his starters out before that. What do you want him to do?

VCU pays his salary not Akron.

God there are some babies in this world. Just give everyone a cupcake and a trophy and call it a day. And don't forget to shake your fist at the clouds while you are at it.
haha. I love how you take what was said, and turn it into that cliche garbage.

There's a difference between refusing to acknowledge that a team is better and suggesting that a team should have sportsmanship.

I am so sick of people whining about other people whining, that I just have to take the time to whine about it.

Just kidding. Without cross-whining, there would be no internet. As for Smart - his teams ran some really good offensive stuff on the way to the Final Four when he had Jamie Skeen, a rugged 6-9 power forward who could shoot threes like a guard and play in the post, and a lot of shooters around him (veteran guards). They spread the floor and were a bitch to guard. That's how they beat the big boys on the way to the Final Four, moreso than the press. They were very very tough to defend.

Since then (guys like Skeen don't grow on trees in mid-majorville), VCU has depended more on defense to create offense, with a few plays to get Daniels some threes. That's been successful, but their halfcourt today was force up the first bad shot you get and try to get the press working. On another day, and with a lesser opposing backcourt, that might have been successful.

He's a very good coach and today doesn't really prove otherwise. Sometimes, your best stuff don't work.

The CYO can have Stevens and Smart. Our league will do just fine with KO and Pastner.
