Locker Room Interviews. UConn Report

Not going to post the individual interviews, but they are listed 1st.

I think the 1/2 person was how Lou was playing due to her injury.

Hmmm... no Lou's interview.

"Gabby's not going to bail them out with some superhuman play ... It was all on their shoulders."

Regarding the 4 1/2 comment, Geno was asked explicitly who was the 1/2. His answer was a bit interesting

Basically, he starts by saying that Liv gave us some good minutes so I think maybe the 1/2 was for her and he was giving Lou a 'donut'.

When pressed further, he commented that Lou's mobility is not the same but he was 'shocked' that Lou's biggest play was on defense. Deep down, he is not happy with Lou's production it seems.

Geno is clearly trying to push every button in his arsenal to get Lou to play at a high level on Sunday. If it does not happen, there will be alot of disappointed BY's who got their Tampa FF tickets.

No not a dig at her personally for production, remember a line he has used, can't guard a chair.

Maybe on the surface although it has been a long time that her defense was so suspect that a timely steal would illicit such 'surprise'.

I still think it was a not so hidden observation that we desperately need Lou's offense and I am sure Lou will take it that way and do what generations of UConn AA's have tried to do and make Geno eat his words. :D

I was traveling and not able to watch the game. Did they focus their defense on Lou in some way? Knowing she is injured and so figuring they could shut her down--and did?

No. They put a long, tall player in Lou’s face all night. UCLA’s defense is like UCF’s with the slapping at the ball and bumping. Lou had trouble creating space for herself so she passed (4 assists), played defense, and kept Drummer off of Phee

Wonder who is the 1/2?
He wouldn't say that about LOU, some others may--she was hurting.
I think he was lighting a fire under CW. She missed scoring opportunities. He defense was pretty good.

The word among opposing coaches all season has been use the above approach to beating Uconn. It comes close (often) to doing the job. 2 reasons for that approach first and foremost is Uconn has only 5 some 6 to rely on. AND Uconn plays BASKETBALL not hockey --that bumping etc takes Uconn out of it's normal rhythm. We'll see it again and again (if we are lucky).

"We didn't come to play close," said Coach Close. Thank God UConn did. Everybody's talking about getting close to beating the Huskies. Dawn said it just before UConn beat them by 18 points--again this year. Jeff had never beaten Geno before this season, so it isn't impossible for someone to do that.
Last night the better conditioned team won. The Bruins were bent over and tugging on their shorts in the 4th quarter. They'd shot their load to get ahead in the 3rd but were finished after that. Geno went to the whip at the end prodding Crystal into hunting and making important baskets. Conditioning + Crystal: kept Close to losing (close). Oh, and 'Pheesa, too.

Like I said a few games ago, it was more then likely that KLS could only be effective for so long before that back became more of a factor again...........Geno chose to play her in those early games, my preference would have been to hold her out for as long as possible so she might have more effective minutes in the round of 16 going forward........

Based on his later comments, I think he meant to say 5-1/2 players since he explained that he was referring to the minutes he got from Olivia off the bench...

who knows............he might have slipped thinking KLS was at half capacity but thought better of commenting on that so through in ONO.........

He remarked that "Lou's mobility isn't what it should be...She struggled, really struggled."

she also had an ankle brace on...........I could be wrong but I don't remember seeing her wear that as much this season

half player was lou. not because her production is off, but because she's got the injured back ... they don't acknowledge this outright, but a teamate let slip that she needs a to wear abrace when out of uniform ... it's amazing how tough she is. and a shame that she -- and the team -- has to deal with this crap yet again.

(but no one wants to set up excuses)
