For what it is worth. I am interested in seeing how these stats are broken down by posters here and how you feel the various stats impact your opinion on the POY race between Sims and Chiney.

Let me say that I think Stewart is the best player in the country but the voters tend to reward seniors.

PPG
Odyssey 29.6
Chiney 26.5

Shooting %
Odyssey: 46% (add the extra points earned on 3-shots and OS is effectively at 53%)
Chiney: 62.9% (add the extra points earned on 3-point shots and CO is effectively 63.0%)

RPG
Odssey 4.07: Baylor is shooting 44% for the year so each rebound would equate to an extra 4.08 PPG
Chiney 12: Stanford is shooting 48% for the year so each rebound would equate to an extra 11.59 PPG

APG
Odyssey 4.74: 9.48 PPG, based on two-point shooting
Chiney 1.6: 3.2 PPG, based on two point shooting

SPG
Odyssey 1.96
Chiney 1.26

FTMPG
Odyssey 6.37
Chiney 3.81

FT%
Odyssey: 81%
Chiney: 71%

FTAPG
Odyssey 7.81
Chiney 5.37

3-pointers made
Odyssey 83 (44.1%)
Chiney 2 (22.2%)

Blocks
Odyssey 3 (negligible)
Chiney 46 (since Stanford opponents are shooting 35% for the year that would equate to 1.19 PPG)

Fouls PG
Odyssey 2.04
Chiney 2.30

Minutes Per Game
Odyssey 32.4
Chiney 32.8

A player that should be in the discussion - but won't be - is Bria.

It would be interesting to me if someone could post how many shots Chiney and Sims average a game and how many of their teams points they score. On UConn you share the ball and I would like to compare how much more the ball is shared, along with points and shots comparing the other players up for POY.

I'm surprised to see that Odyssey is shooting FTs at 81%. I thought she was about an 88% shooter.

Game after game, it's becoming clear that she's having a top 6-7 season. She's in the mix with Odyssey, Chiney, Stewie, Thomas, and McBride.

I think it's pretty tough to argue against a vote for Ogwumike, Sims, or Stewart this year. Both Sims and Ogwumike have put a relatively outclassed team on their shoulders and had remarkable successful seasons. Stewart is, well, Stewart. The voting should be close.

I think the voters give it to Simms, but I would say either would be a terrific choice. I think there are other worthy candidates - put Bria on Baylor instead of Simms, and Bria's numbers would be crazy good too. But as was pointed out, NPOY isn't about the "best player", it's mostly about the best stats, and the momentum and accolades from the press...

I'll be surprised if Ogwumike/Sims take home the bulk of the POY awards with Stewart/McBride having great seasons. Historically speaking, whenever there's an undefeated team that makes a good run in the tournament, they almost always have a player (or players) that take home the POY awards:
2012: Griner sweeps awards
2010: Moore/Charles sweep awards
2009: Moore sweeps awards
2002: Bird sweeps awards
1998: Holdsclaw sweeps awards
1995: Lobo sweeps awards
1986: No one on Texas sweeps awards...Cheryl Miller takes home awards after leading team to championship game and putting up otherwordly numbers

Furthermore, Stanford/Baylor are not championship contenders and while Stanford has a shot of being a #1 seed, Baylor's chances of nabbing one are incredibly slim. Every POY (the individual who received the bulk of the awards for that season) for the last 20 seasons came from a team that was a #1 seed.

At this point, my vote would be for Stewart or McBride.
