He is not a point guard.

This is @Hey Adrien! game scout in Nov. of 2023 during Traores freshman year:

“Physical power forward- Seydou Traore 6’7 215 freshman
15.5p, 10.5r, 2.0s, 1.0b, 68.4 2P%, 2.0 3PA, 12.5 3P%, 1.0 fouls
Clearly, the most impressive freshman of the bunch is Seydou Traore, a NYC-bred power forward who played high school ball at Our Savior Lutheran. At 6’7 215, he’s got a fearless motor and a frame that has overpowered opponents. Unfazed against Kansas, Traore scored 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting while grabbing 8 rebounds. Praised for his coachability and willingness to learn, when all is said and done, expect Traore to get All-MAAC honors as soon as this year.”

Traore is seasoned and experienced. He would be a great addition to the roster as someone who can come off the bench and get points and rebounds.
 
No idea if Traore is actually being recruited or not, but he’d be a great add to the roster. 3/4 combo, has started games in the B1G and B12.

As a freshmen had 16/8 against Kansas, 13/8 against us and multiple double figure games in P4 conference games. He can clearly play. I’d think WVU or Seton Hall would give him starting opps and prb more $$, but we should be ecstatic if this becomes our 10th guy.

He might not fit some of your desires for a taller guy with a pterosaur wingspan, but I’d prefer someone with major conference experience over a mid-major guy.

Kid looked very talented when we played them a few years ago - he stood out. I don't see the positional need - last thing it would seem we need is another wing type player. Maybe with some coaching.............

I saw him listed at 6'6" and lighter than what @Mister P lists above. Not sure the reality, but I agree he's not an ideal fit. I think what most of us are looking for is a PF that is bigger than Khamenia, not smaller. 6'9" 235 type of guy. Maybe there aren't any.

I would also like to see a much bigger 4 and hope that the staff will be signing one.

But if he decides to come here to play with a championship caliber team then I’m all for the additional bench piece. Even if we get the bigger 4.

This is the nagging question. As it stands Khamenia is on an island by himself. If he is out for any reason, the most viable option would be to slide Landrew over from the 3 because he is heavier than Jayden. That seems like a tall order for a freshman who doesn't know the system and hasn't acclimated to playing Big East defense. We would lose the advantage of someone like Landrew at the 3 and also potentially leave Jayden in a tough spot holding down the 3.
This is far from over.

Totally picked over - now it's trying to get reclasses, euros, couch cushions. If you didn't get one when they were there, you're now having to get really creative.

If I was super high on him he’d be an early entrant draft prospect.

As it stands he’s rated higher than both Newton and Silas coming out of HS. He has their size at 6’4 and he seems more athletic than both. While having high level defensive qualities and can be considered a shooter.

Yes, all of those qualities give him a higher ceiling than those guys if things come together correctly.

He would never see game action at a place like URI so he will never see game action at Kansas. It's good to be tall, you can get a scholarship now at top basketball schools.

I agree, but that "more" I think are Millander/Koroma types who can play meaningful minutes if needed, but aren't part of the 8-9 man rotation which we likely already have.

I had confidence in him and he made some impactful plays in limited minutes during the season. 2024-25 (IU Indy): Millender ranked 12th nationally in assist-to-turnover ratio with a 2.95 mark, leading the Horizon League. I think he was fine as a depth piece and could have stepped in adequately. I'll take a guard like him on the team any time.

But he did step in and played. Who else did we have??? I’ll wait. He had to play and it was a good thing that he was on the team. You can’t go back in time and bash his contribution in a win that eventually led to a final four. And guess what, he would’ve played against Florida last season also, behind Hassan, and possibly contributed to us winning that game. We need at least three PG’s and at least three Bigs, every season.

Nobody is arguing against having that type of player as a 3rd PG, the point is we should not be going into that season with a Millender type as a primary backup option. He looked passable in his minutes against Furman despite being clearly overmatched. Now imagine if he was the backup PG and playing Malachi's minutes, how would that have looked?

Maybe not an Alec, but a Malachi type plus County would probably do it. Malachi saved our ass when Silas was hurt and made practice competitive all year. A similar level player at the 4 would make me feel way better too.

Whoa… yes he played bc he had too. And that’s not ideal in any way. And I don’t think he would’ve played a second against Florida. Aidan, for all his worts, was a zillion times better player. Nowell is better. Liam was our defacto PG for spells.

I’m not bashing the contribution, I’m bashing the mindset that ppl had all year that he could’ve played meaningful minutes against real teams.

Hear hear!! Point about Fla game is salient.

Revisionist History at its best:
"Little used reserve Millender saves the day against Gators. Huskies go on to win 3rd consecutive National Championshp"

We'll never know, but I can think of about 10 different scenarios where we win the Fla game and we're competing for a 4th consecutive in 25-26!!

Oy vey… he played 61 minutes on the season and more than 1/2 of those were in the first five games of the year against cupcakes. I can’t remember him playing a meaningful minute until then and the minutes he played during the big east season were in games we won by an average of 20+.

We’ve got people saying he could’ve been a viable
Piece in upsetting the soon to be champions last year.

Not trying to knock the kid as by all accounts he was a great teammate. But citing stats from his low D1 team that went 10-22 is a choice.
