Power Forward Portal Wish | Page 4 | The Boneyard

Power Forward Portal Wish

I was looking in the portal and there is a name that intrigues me. It is Issiah Manning from Sam Houston.
Solid pick.

The former 6'8 225 TCU commit averaged 11p, 4r and hit 35% of his threes last year (22-for-63) in just 20 mpg. Sam Houston State had a decent defense last season (155th overall, 5th in CUSA) and his efficiency scores on defense were above average.

This kid seemed productive at Longwood. Former Xavier player. Pretty nice progression of productivity year over year.

Only issue is not a 3pt shooter

Multi-part question for those throwing names out for the program to consider:

Do you believe Tom Moore (or someone else on the staff) follows the Boneyard and will act on these suggestions, or, are you hoping that Tom Moore (or someone else oh the staff) will stumble upon the Boneyard, then act on these suggestions, or, are you planning on contacting Tim Moore (or someone else on the staff) to suggest names for the program to look into?

It's funny, ain't it - everyone saying what they want and what the staff should do, and how our current roster is imperfect because arms are 1 inch too short.

.-.
Would seem to be the core first iteration. Gets us to 9 deep.

I'm sure they'll fill in some spots on the roster now with lower level double backups. Anyone wishing for that studly PF should give it a rest, we have what we need.
Think our roster currently has 10 guys on it if you add the other Ross.

I forget if we have 12, 13, or 15 spots. But yeah it seems like the rest will be backfiller practice guys. Coaching staff must be planning on deploying Landrew and Ross at the backup 4. Which I’m meh about but it can help get Landrew on the floor more I suppose.

Probably won't need much of a backup 4 - could maybe even see them going double big for 5 minutes a game in lieu of how things are moving.

I forgot about little Ross too - 15 spots I believe, don't have to fill them all. What did we have last year, 14?

Not that it means too much at this point, but Jaylen yesterday during media interviews said that Jacob will surprise people this year.

Hurley doesn't do double bigs and it really wouldn't make any sense to start now when our only two bigs both only score around the rim and one is really limited in his offense.

I can see ability in Jacob. I just don’t know where the minutes come from with County and the new transfer prepared to take all the minutes at guard.

Maybe he can operate as the Millender 3rd guard?

How can you see it? He didn't play. I know you love the Ross'.

What crawled up yo u know what

All 15 were filled last year, although Jacob Ross was a redshirt.

Ball counts towards the 15. Last year some of those guys who weren't expected to play much came on board very late. I expect the same this year.

If this is any indication, our portal class may be wrapped up?

Here are comments on all 4 from Hurley.

"Najai is a physically imposing presence at the center position," head coach Dan Hurley said. "He has the potential to make a huge impact offensively, defensively and on the backboard. There is a great legacy of All-America and NBA level dominant big men at UConn and Najai has the chance to become the next to uphold that tradition."

First team BE? Who's his biggest competition. I think he has a massive year under the UConn tutolage.

Just be giddy that Hurley is going to rely on a freshman to backup point, I know these are the moments you wait for.

He actually stood out a bit during the open practice/scrimmage earlier in the year, looked better than both Jalen and Jayden. I can see some talent there.

Also, I don't think they would have bothered redshirting him if they didn't think he had future potential.

I’m very excited at the chance that we’re looking to give a kid that chose to play for us a proper opportunity and setting to succeed if we do indeed plan on letting him get his feet wet.

I really enjoy when kids trust to play for us and we make proper plans for them to succeed as individuals and also help us succeed.

Pretty gratifying to grab a stud like Silas Demary.

I still don’t know who the freshmen we haven’t given proper trust to have been. Nowell? Diggins? Whatever they looked like as prospects they pretty clearly were over their heads here

Demary is going to be really good.

I’m really interested in seeing how County develops as he may have a higher ceiling than both Demary and Newton with his size and athleticism.

I don't think Hurley is going to fully rely on County if he doesn't perform as needed. The more I read up on him the more I think Nils is there to backup PG as much a SG. Before UCF he was the starting PG for his 2022 U18 German National Team, averaging 4 assists. Noting spectacular, but between that and some of his abilities seen on his reels, I think we will be OK with the backup PG position between Nils and County.

We literally do not even have a backup power forward right now and our starting 4 is a tweener. And our backup 3 is 6’6” at best in shoes

And? Is that a complaint or an observation? Not sure you can always fill each position with the ideal profile. Our backup 3-4 is also built like a Mack truck.

We also have a 6’6” shooting guard.

That’s not the last additions to the roster but I do understand why it’s being presented that way.
