Potential DC candidates

Just curious, why the need for nfl player experience. I don't think Diaco, Narduzzi or Kirby Smart (Alabama) ever played in the NFL.

The amount of likes this worn-out joke continues to get on the BY would probably wither my hope in humanity if I hadn't already been exposed to the Internet.
Where does that come from?

The only guy on your latest list still bowling is Marion Hobby and it is not likely we can pry him away from Clemson. Also don't see any connection to Diaco. Got to think it's Van Malone.

There is a strong chance that with all state positions (the assistant coaching jobs qualify), it is required to interview all qualified applicants. The positions were very likely posted after the candidates had been determined (and also informally offered the jobs which they informally accepted) with the requirements designed to limit the number of applicants in order to save time and trouble (every fan who believes he did well enough in fantasy football or playing Madden could view himself as a candidate).

Wow!

I want this guy solely for his character. We can never have enough people of this quality.

Whether he ends up here or not I'm making a donation to New Beginnings!

I'm on board with Malone as a dark horse candidate. I'm most interested in this hire than the others so far, perhaps because I have some time invested in it. Nice little article on him:

Really hope this guy is hired as DC, not only because I think it would be a great hire, but also so that I can watch certain posters (the ones I haven't already put on "ignore") conveniently disregard this post and link and blabber uninformed nonsense about how we could have done better.

Actually remember Poindexter from his playing days. Was he at UVA the same time as Terry Kirby? As I get closer to 40, I'm like damn, been watching CFB a long

Anyone know if these 2014 kids can bail and come to us? Ridiculous class for UVA, especially on D. the #1 Safety has UConn offer.

Based on my understanding, if they haven't signed a letter of intent (LOI), then a verbal commitment does not hold them to any institution. They can flip if they want, much in the way that Boyle flipped to UConn from BC...

EDIT: I guess they are referring to the letters as NLI's now (National Letter of Intent). Same principle though. Flip 'em, Coach Poindexter!!!

I remember him as well. Ultra-athletic, ultra-talented. Lost it all on a knee injury in college.

Me too, but this guy seems like a good hire as well, with the limited info I have:

http://www.streakingthelawn.com/2013/2/6/3959904/virginia-recruiter-of-the-year-anthony-poindexter

I like this:

Poindexter has long had a reputation as not only one of the best recruiters in the area, but in the conference and nation as well.

If he is the DC it does make sense. He's an experienced defensive coach who can recruit. I would imagine Diaco will be implementing his defense and he needed a teacher type coach to teach the defense.

I guess it could be compared to a Cummings at CMU. I expect Diaco to be very involved in the defense and Poindexter will be learning on the fly and eventually have full control of the defense.

With Patterson on board as an Associate HC (correct?) and QB's coach, along with many years as a HC, I expect Diaco will put a lot of responsibilities in his lap to free Diaco up for the defense.
