Post Game Thread - Thank You, Alex, Tarris, and Malachi

Watch the replay... Solo was hit hard there.
I mean, that was a consistent theme. They were the better team, genuinely, but there were still moments that could have flipped, and that was one. A difficult turn of events given how it felt it was being called elsewhere.

The margin was small, which means we could point to probably two calls we thought we not great (I won't name the obvious). But it's a game of breaks, and we had a not healthy Yaxel, which was in our favor.

People are saying they are surprised it was so close. You do realize that our defense on them was just as good. They were the best 3pt shooting team in ten tournament and we held them to 2 makes.

We did everything we wanted to do in the game defensively limited transition 3 pt shooting and kept them off the glass and forced them to be a half court team all game. It was a few plays here and there that we usually make that we didn’t.

The transition offense has been bad all year and it cost us at a critical junction in the game the Tarris steal and solo miss followed by their 3 was a killer. Cut it to 4 there and game pressure goes on them. Things might be a little different.
Yep. It really did come down to just not making enough of our open shots.

Not to be that guy, but the glazing of Yaxel and Cadeau and 14 out of 15 50:50 calls going michigans way, it just felt like the narrative was for them to win and it was going to happen. They rarely talked about UConn, other than how it affected Michigan’s chances to win.

I’m surprised I’m saying these things cuz these takes usually sound corny to me, but it really did feel like that.

Great season. Thanks to everyone in the program who helps continue an unmatched level of excellence. Unfortunately couldn't overcome another good team and their three extra players on the court. Dusty thought "they" found a way to win. The officiating was unworthy of the work our guys put in all year. Atrocious.

That's the thing, Yaxel bring hurt created a big opportunity. Although I have to say that Demary was really hobbling a lot this game. He reinjured his ankle at one point early.

You can be that guy

On one hand, watching players develop from freshman to senior is largely going to end with NIL and the portal. On the other hand, we will see more and more players try to sue their way to extra eligibility so they can continue to play in college once they've developed.
This suing for eligibility thing is weird especially when even regular students have a time-clock for college and eligibility issues based on credits. I wonder how courts even get involved when even regular students have to abide by a certain clock.

They did an excellent job on roster construction this year. It didn't seem like a home run before the season started but sometimes you just nail it.
Cam Spencer wasn't our first choice. We don't win that title without anyone but him from the portal. And I think Hurley is just as good a talent evaluator as May. Sometimes it is just luck.

We have lost to the eventual champions so many times.
Demary saying he has a decision also has me thinking about next year. If he leaves and Mullins leave we’re going to have quite a bit of turnover.

Hurley had made 6 straight tournaments. Calhoun never did that. But Calhoun usually followed up a transition year with a deep run

Can't call out a blatantly missed call if our center struggled to score...?
No. I meant to quote an Excalibur post about Mara's impact. Don't know why your's was there when I ended up posting. No intent to invalidate your opinion.

I don't know that I remember two flagrants on one possession, but given what we watched, I'd not be surprised.

I agree. They absolutely were the best team ALL year. But here is the thing. They would not have won tonight, had it not been for the officials. The best teams do not always win, and all things being even, the best team would have lost (IMO). It is what it is. Michigan, all year long, was absolutely the best team.
Quit whining and move on
