Are the academic requirements for every transfer or only for non first time transfers?
I'd have to go back and google a bit, however since the NCAA was in a battle with the DOJ regarding the sit out rule, now if a player transfers, there was something (tldr) about academic eligibility at both the outgoing and incoming schools, along with a measure of academic progress.

No need to Google it, I can do it. I only asked because I thought that you might have looked at the article recently and knew off the top of your head.

Haven't we learned that high school ranking should be thrown out after the first year?
You're right. Sort of. The rankings out of hs do carry some significance at least as a general indicator of future potential. Btw only once or twice since 1994 has a team won the NC WITHOUT having a #1 ranked player on their roster.
Class of 2020 rankings: 3 of the top 5 below have won NC's and the remaining 2 have played for a NC
  1. Paige Bueckers
  2. Angel Reese
  3. Cameron Brink
  4. Caitlin Clark
  5. Kamilla Cardoso

I guess that kind of depends on what ranking system you use?
I'm assuming you're using the ESPN hoopgurlz for those rankings above.

1. South Carolina's top ranked player out of high school was Raven Johnson (#2 overall, after Azzi 2021)
2. LSU's Angel Reese (#2 overall, after Paige Bueckers)
3. South Carolina's for 2022 Championship was Boston, who was #3 overall behind Jones and Horston.

Stanford, Haley Jones was #1 for her class.
[COVID]
Baylor, Lauren Cox was #1.

4. Notre Dame, top rated player out of high school was Brianna Turner who was number 2 in 2014 but I don't think she played? so, then it would push to Jessica Shepherd who was #3 overall in 2015.

South Carolina, A'ja Wilson was number 1

Uconn – Stewie, Katie Lou [I believe injured for the Championship Game] 2012–2016
UConn – Stewie, Kaleena
UConn – Stewie, Kaleena
UConn – Stewie Kaleena

Baylor, Brittney Griner [it's still wild to think hoopgurlz had long debates about whether Griner or Kelsey Bone would be #1, I never saw them play in high school though]

5. Texas A&M, top ranked player was potentially Karla Gilbert #10 overall in 2010, but I can't find Hoopgurlz earlier than 2007. But I think 2006's top recruit was Tina Charles, Courtney Paris before that, and then Candace Parker, Brittany Hunter.

~6. I don't think Maryland had any number 1 recruits when they won in 2004. [this is a guess based on who won top player awards, gatorade and USA Today]

#1 ranked players by Hoopgurlz to not win National Championships since 2007:
Courtney Paris [Final Four], EDD [Sweet 16 with Delaware], Chiney Ogwumike [three Final Fours], Mercedes Russell [Elite Eight], Megan Walker [four final fours], Christyn Williams [four final fours].

And so far, Paige and Azzi, Lauren Betts, and Juju Watkins.

Yeah...I'm not sure how Graves is getting players to come in still given how there has been a mass exodus after each season for 3 or 4 years in a row.
Me neither. But that SWOOSH thing is like a magnet.

Top ten left in the portal imo still real difference makers.

1. Timea Gardiner
2. Janiah Barker
3. Deja Kelly
4.Liatu King
5. Leilani Kapinus
6.Liza Karlen
7. Samira Spencer
8. Cameron Williams
9. Maryam Dauda
10. Mir McLean

But I also am keeping track of some of the underclassmen, either that didn't get much minutes or are coming from a mid major

1. Lety Vasconcelos (Baylor)
2. Angelica Velez (LSU)
3. Elle Evans (North Dakota State)
4. Domika Paurova (Oregon State) - rest of the Oregon State crew can go here as well. Don't feel like listing.
5. Ari Long (Washington)

I'd like to see Cameron Williams as a Husky.

I am stunned that there have been zero leaks on social media about Barker's and Gardiner's schools of interest, scheduled visits, or visits taken.

Kyla Oldacre's process was also kept extremely private on social media considering she entered the transfer portal back in late March and committed to Texas like 4-5 weeks later.

Based on who UConn has had over the years, I don't see Williams as a fit. Coach Arico moved her from a starting position to the bench and her playing time fluctuated greatly. If she struggled getting consistent minutes with Michigan, I would think it would be more of the same at UConn. That wouldn't help the team at all.

This is obviously just an opinion. But I do hope some of these last transfers end up in conferences outside of the SEC and Big 10.

One out, one in ...

Oh wow, that's a blast from the past, reminds me of two members of the all time all name team--the Mapp brothers Scientific and Majestic.
