that's what good coaches do Rich.I think he had a bunch of mid major level players star struck and over achieving.

Hurley regularly rips his players to shreds during the game. He was ripping the defense apart ("wet tissue" comment) to the media like a month ago, and has no problem saying that we were playing like trash in halftime and post-game comments. But it works, because Hurley built the culture and expectations that allows that type of thing to work
It's true that the media didn't do Pitino favors by hyping up SJU too much before the season, but he hand picked his entire roster and hasn't built anything at St Johns that allows him to act like that. He's earned the benefit of the doubt as a coach since he's one of the best to ever do it, but his culture is garbage right now and his players won't respond to that style unless there's a culture that it fits into
He'll get there after a few years because that's just what he does, but he's acting ahead of schedule. And tantrums like that will only alienate the fanbase
Nailed an assistant? Who was he?Imagine if we hired some re-tread like this who has coached at a grillion universities, nailed an assistant on a pool table, engaged in recruiting violations and then blames his players and assistants when he keeps losing?
God we hit the jackpot with Danny.
Good coaches sure, He’s not coaching mid major level players anymore though. His current team is under achieving. I doubt that these guys would run through a brick wall for him at this point.that's what good coaches do Rich.
I agree. What's the point of calling out the players, that you recruited by the way, for their foot speed? It's not like they can improve that right now. I can see calling out effort, but not physical traits. Surprised he didn't say they were too short.Coaches rip their players all the time. Criticizing their performance is one thing, but going after the kids themselves and their level of talent is bush league.
His assistants don't have enough lateral quickness? Or somehow their job is to overcome the physical limitations of the players Pitino selected to bring in?He also called out his assistants so I wonder how Taliek feels
If a young wolf man Jack became a cbb podcasterI've never seen this guy but it's entertaining. "Rick, it's over, you're fired"

alleyne is not as good defensively as cam, sorry. quicker maybe, but Cam has bball iq, and his anticipation/positioning are much betterCam is a deadly shooter and is much more creative offensively- but give Alleyne some credit, he did score a lot of big shots that helped UConn in their run last year. Defensively, Naheim is much better and quicker.

For me, that's always been the standard. Not sure this really approaches that...Biggest meltdown by an elite coach in college athletics since Woody Hayes slugged that Clemson player.
Whether it's bush league or not is one thing...does make you question if you want to play for the guy. Think about telling stockholders that the team you managed (and picked), sucks. Only, they can hear you saying it. Motivational or not, if you work for the woke F5 company that I do, the team stays and you're toast.Coaches rip their players all the time. Not any moreJim Jackson: “you can make these comments if you’re in the NBA because they’re professionals, but college is different.”
Is it?
-> “I’m going to commit whatever it takes,” Repole told The Post in a phone interview Wednesday night. “I don’t think there’s going to be any alumni from any other Big East school that’s going to give to their alma mater more than I can. If there is, I would like to meet him. I just want to make sure everybody knows that.”<-
