Pitino Gonna Pitino

I think it's not that. He's pretty much saying how Calhoun is a peer in every way. How they came up as rivals before the BE and continued being rivals in the BE and in some ways are looked at as rivals now in regards to being the best coach ever. He doesn't mention another coach that came up around the same time in K, because K wasn't down the street when he was starting and wasn't in his backyard when he was in the BE. It's a matter of familiarity and longevity.
I think it was a very subtle swipe at Calipari, who not only restored the Kentucky program that Pitino rebuilt, but competed with for a number of years first Louisville vs Memphis, then Kentucky vs Louisville.

LOL. I don't think it was so subtle.

I realize I’m in the minority, but I like this newer better version of Pitino. He said earlier in the year that he’s learned a great deal of humility, and I think that comes across in the things he says and how he says them.

Pitino has been faking humility (and sincerity) for as long as he's been able to speak.

Yeah he’s the A-Rod of college basketball trying to rehab years of being a d0uche. (From a Yankee fan)

It’s when he’s saying it. How come we ever heard these pearls in the last 40 years? He doesn’t bother to say that now UConn is a rival in the BE? He respects Calhoun huh? How bout respecting Hurley? He could have thrown it in. Smart enough to know it’s a bizarre dig at Hurley after that Storrs comment, right? The guy is scum and it’s shocking that anyone would root for him.
I am far from a Pitino fan - he is scum but why would you care if he respects Dan Hurley?
I'm beginning to wonder how many people in the business - refs, coaches, NCAA folks - actually have any respect for Dan Hurley? Dan Hurley hasn't helped his cause in any way this season.

.-.

It's lonely at the top.

Because not doing so for a back to back champion coach is a dig, just like his Storrs comment. He loves to manipulate the media. BTW, are they shaking hands now?
