Pitino Gonna Pitino

Pitino got here by going all portal unless a 5 star jumps into his lap. Hurley has been about developing 4’s mostly. Is this going to be a major change in direction for Hurley when he has a big class coming in?

I hate every New York team, Yankees the most but St Johns with their scum bag coach and fair weather insufferable fans are quickly moving up the list. I will say though that their players seem likeabke.
How do you think they were able to afford Pitino? Womens sports at St John’s is a joke, and even some men’s sports have been sacrificed for basketball.

Was 1985. It's ok to do a little research.
The year the Big East had 3 of the 5 spots
and Nova and 8 seed won it all
I think we had 4 in the elite 8
I thought 1999 with Artest but they lost. In the then elite 8 by a prophetic score of 77-74 to Ohio State .

So it was the final 5 in 1985?

I do think the fair weather epithet is reasonable… I couldn’t believe it looking around MSG. Where have you all been hiding?

is he the Connecticut radio guy from years ago? Who did those fake prank phone calls?
No, current A list stand up comedian. Italian guy. Maniscalco. He’s awesome.

Instead of waving at Storrs, he should stop in and we can show him a collection of National Title Banners of which there are 17. I think a tad more than St .Johns.

See above tweet. Picture is from Josh Conrad.

Pitino is easily Top 5 college coach of all time and great on the mic. Show the man some respect.
You can respect and at the same time think he is an ass

Knight. Roy W. Dean Smith.

Guys like Izzo & Jay Wright are in the conversation.

Rick's knock is continuity, but that comes with the recognition that he can win/adapt wherever he goes. Very few coaches have taken his path. Most of those guys above are one program guys, Roy being the exception.
Calhoun was at Northeastern before UConn and did quote well. I think sometimes some people have a much higher opinion on oneself then what reality is

One significant program - almost all big time coached at some mid major on the way up.

To bring this thread back on track, I think we're missing the bigger picture.

St John's is thrilled (out and out giddy to be exact) that they're in the tournament and headed to Providence. We don't start getting excited until we reach the final four.

Just heard Pitino say during an ESPN ncaa presser interview, and said there has only been one coach he considered his rival. That was Coach Calhoun. Rick said he has alot of respect for him.....

Can't hate him too much after hearing that.

Did you guys catch the latest? Pitino interviewed while at Providence as he gets ready for the NCAAs

Paraphrasing that the only coach Pitino ever considered a rival was J.C. From the BU Days, Providence, and so on.

Pretty interesting. he said they hated one another back in the day.

I'm sure that relationship probably evolved to more of a mutual respect after all the success both coaches had.

I dont know why some of you dislike Pitino so much. I actually like his style and appreciate his humor. The guy is one heck of a coach and a great asset to the Big East

It was reported of their animosity toward each other when Pitino was at BU and Calhoun was at Northeastern.
Of course, they were young and both wanted to rule the Boston college basketball scene. Probably envy and jealousy for young insecure coaches until they both found their footing and success.
