I get your point. But you gotta be honest an admit the proportions aren't the same. It makes a huge difference

It's not the same to have 1-2k** (vastly overestimating this to give you the benefit of the doubt) providence fans in a sold-out XL center vs having 60%+ of the Garden be filled with UConn fans.

PC fans may be get away with running a few chants and get loud every once in a while at XL. But it isn't the same as feeling you are outright playing a road game at home.

Ultimately, both decisions to play in the smaller arena may be due to keep fans from the opposing team out which technically makes you right. But it is far less of a problem for UConn. In fact, I would say UConn should continue to play that game at XL Center. 1-2K opposing fans in a 15k building is nothing to be worried about

At this point we are selling out every game. So we can schedule however Hurley likes. If we can schedule more of the money games in Hartford, that allows us to schedule more of the conference games at home. And Hurley has said he would like to schedule some of the bigger games at Gampel. It's a little easier on the students and it's nice to have games with a little more juice on campus.

My honest guess is that this is more of of a overall scheduling shift rather than it is a Providence centric move.

Meh, I bet ricky isn't around that long anyway. MSG is a major piece of what makes the BE the BE. It would be extremely stupid for the Johnnies to pass up playing a top program at MSG but whatever. And if Hurley actually said he would only play an opponent at Gampel, they should send him a nice thank you card.

Actually that's the start of PC's spring break so students won't be around.
What?
You mean they would rather leave town then go see an automatic win over our hapless Huskies?
Oh, maybe they realized DC will be healthy (fingers crossed), and SC will be settled into a leadership role, so why stay around to see a big loss at home............

Assisted access <<

-> Competitively, it makes a ton of sense – UConn fans have historically marched to the Garden in droves and made their presence heard, even more so recently. Financially – trading the 19,500-seat arena in Manhattan for 5,602 seats in Queens – not so much.

St. John’s is set to contest eight regular season games at Madison Square Garden this season – six in Big East play. The Red Storm have two Big East home games (against Xavier and Butler) at Carnesecca Arena this year and two (DePaul and Seton Hall) at UBS Arena.

“We didn’t sell out against Xavier (at Carnesecca). We didn’t have anybody come to Barclays (Center for Boston College on Dec. 10),” Pitino said. “We don’t have an abundance of fans. We’re not UConn or Villanova with fans, and there’s a reason. We lost the brand. Louie [Carnesecca] has been gone a long time. So we got to build the brand back and the people will come back.” <-

-> The programs haven’t met at Carnesecca Arena since 1990.<-

Maybe someone should tell the Hall of Fame coach the way you build interest and fan support, and gain national recognition, is by playing and winning games against name competition in the World's Most Famous Arena.
Running and hiding from UConn when we'll have lost some major pieces of this team seems like a lost opportunity for St. John's.

Yes, but PC fan sidetracked the thread topic from Pitino/MSG .

You mean Pitino is not worried about PC fans at MSG? More likely he's just not worried about PC, but I digress

UConn fills MSG

PC does not fill the XL

Simple math, although I suppose it's somewhat still too complicated for simple minds

Pitino; "we're going to play UConn at Carneseca, not MSG"

Hurley doesn't even talk about where we'll play PC

PC Fans: " it's the same thing"

He’s complaining about fan support as well.

That sounds like the rant he went on just before he resigned from the Celtics.

A dozen games is a little early to be abandoning the team.

What's your favored unit of measurement for the "amount of fans," you're considering? A ton?
