I live in TN. I thought long and hard. There is no right answer.
Here were the 3 that were top of mind:

Steve McNair
Tee Martin
Pat Summitt (clearly I'm counting coaches, but you don't have to)

They can be from the state too, if you think they are representative of that state simply by being from the area (i.e. Favre and Mississippi)

From Stamford, CT: Albert "Whitey" Michelsen

2:29:21.8

Michelsen would go on to become a 2-time U.S. Olympian in the Marathon, finishing 9th in 1928 and 7th in 1932, and set a World Record of 2:29:21.8 in a traditional marathon in 1925.

if you are listing Cubs how could you not include Ernie Banks?
Because those infielders were my favorites
Ernie Banks, Billy Williams, Randy Hundley Jim Hickman, Fergie Jenkins................................

Live in CT - we all know those from this state so why waste my time!?

Vernon/Manchester CT - Billy Romo, Billy Masse, Moe Mohardt, Tom Kelley, Jay Johnstone, Judy Genovese (ice skating-went to RHS with her)

Kind of tough to do, I'll go with
Joe Theismann
Derek Jeter
Tommy Heinsohn

But that leaves people like Shaq, Kyrie Irving, in Rodman on the honorable mention list.

Word is that The Boss knew a guy who could blow a speedball by ya and make you look like a fool.

Massachusetts is a lot easier than Tennessee, lol.

Tom Brady - GOAT. Easiest decision in the history of decisions.
Larry Bird - I'd go with Bill Russell but that was before my time
David Ortiz - There have been better Red Sox in history, could easily go with Ted Williams who has a major tunnel named after him or Yaz, but Ortiz changed the winning trajectory of the franchise, won 3 World Series with the team when they hadn't won a single one in 86 years, and was the face of the team for most of the years I've lived here.

I'm going to treat Massachusetts differently than @HooperScooper

1. Red Auerbach (16 years as player, 9 as head coach, won 7 titles as GM)
2. Carl Yastrzemski (longest tenure with one team, son also drafted by Sox)
3. Doug Flutie - local in every respect

I played little league with Bill Masse. You should maybe consider Jim Penders. Think he played for his dad at East Catholic.

Somebody could come up with Derek Sanderson, Bill Lee, and who else?
Marcus Camby can't be it, but I only lived in MA 51 years ago.

I’m really not into Arizona Sports especially U of A . I took Spanish at ASU so hating them is mandatory.
But Since I have have a soft spot for College Coaches
Lute Olsen has to be on the list
Jim Palmer one of my heroes is from Scottsdale has to be on the list
The third is a tie
I loved Larry Fitzgerald and the fact he played in the Big. East made it easier
But I also loved Steve Nash considered the best Suns player and just a great PG
Honorable mention to Cliff Robinson in the Suns too 25 for obvious reasons and Charles Barkley
Arizona has produced so many Olympic athletes from swimmers to gymnastics
Plus baseball, basketball and even football players .

Jake Voskuhl
Emeka Okafor
Carl Lewis (Gotten to know him. Great guy.)

Now Houston 4+ years
