if true that's pretty remarkable the gains he's made since he first started, during those games in the Virgin Islands it was hard to tell him apart from DeAndre due to their builds, but you could see the noticeable difference by the end of the season and then of course this season. he puts on weight pretty well, added strength will only help him and Amida because it seemed like a majority of their fouls was due to being moved out of position too easily.

He did work hard and although he is not as thick as some he needs to guard his strength was noticeably better although I'm sure not to where he wants it. If he's working that hard to keep getting stronger he deserves some praise form us. Good kid, really good teammate you can tell and working hard to improve. If he, KF and Amida all get better yikes!

Amida Brimah is ahead of schedule in his recovery from shoulder surgery. Working out but no contact drills for another month. #UConn

Rakim Lubin has "chip on his shoulder", over not being highly-touted recruit. Confident, "knows he's good," per Ollie

So he settled for UConn because Kentucky or Duke didn't come calling. It's that the kind of statement you make when you are going to BC or Depaul?

Ollie says Phil Nolan is up to about 235 pounds.
Big deal! I'm 5'10" and I almost hit that number before my wife threatened to do a home-kit gastric bypass on me while I slept. My weight was all muscle too!

Good work by Nolan. In pics I've seen of Phil at fan events, he seems like he's having a blast as a college student / basketball player. You just have to root for a guy like that. I'd love to see him work with someone like Rod Sellers or Jeff Adrien to work on moves around the basket rather than going straight up. I'm looking forward to seeing him progress over the next two years.

Nolan had a hard time dunking the ball last season. I hope this helps his jumping ability.

I don't think it was about having a hard time, it was about where he was when he missed his few dunks……..too far under the basket. Needs to just position himself better or not get pushed under……235 will help that scenario!

Phil has some bounce, he just needs to get stronger through contact.

Very engaging young man and he gladly took a picture with anyone who asked at the Spring Game. The kids loved him. He should ask for a percentage of the future season tickets he sold that day.

lol, I like that you protect the identities of those three kids, but don't care about the two in between.

He still should have passed to Giff, as impressive as that dunk was... It did seal MSU's fate.

I still wonder if anyone on the coaching staff spoke with PN about the concept of passing the ball to NG on this play rather than driving half the length of the court.

But it worked out:)

I just learned this, apparently having extra weight means it will translate into being better position defensively. I never knew this!

Nolan showed great improvement in being able to hold his ground against some much bigger players. With some extra weight and strength, he could become a better rebounder. I'm not as sure as many on The Boneyard that Amida will be the starter at center. Phil is the incumbent and I could see the roles staying similar to last year, with minutes varying with the situation, # of fouls, and the matchups. If we had another backup center, I would bet Phil would start at the 4 over KF.

I'll believe it when I see it. He said DD was up to like 220 or 215 last summer and DD didn't look a pound over 200.

The team play is to pass, but I've always felt it introduces a level of danger that's not worth the risk. No need for a big man with a full head of steam trying to execute a pass on the run.

I'd rather them keep the momentum on the runout and dunk it hard.
