Per ESPN McNeeley is going pro

He is saying that if he had to come back that UConn isn't a good school to develop your NBA future. Kids want to be 1 and done if potential lottery picks and if they don't that will be used against the school whether true.
I know you're just quoting him; but that would jump to top ten asinine BY takes ever and that's saying something.

Would take Rutgers AL right off the list.

Definitely got asked to shoulder way too much of the load this season, so some of his warts were showing through. Think NBA scouts will go back to his high school tape (like they did a bit with Castle) and see a guy who is a good complimentary player on a team; he should play better when he’s not expected to be such a focal point of the offense. He fits well around other guys, excited to see what’s next.
You’re saying he says nice things about the other players?

I think he needs one more year, but that is just me.

Hmmm ok again I will disagree. Hawkins was a lottery pick and a great shooter going in and a quicker athlete. I still think it was the right decision for Liam but let's not say he isn't sure thing NBA superstar at the next level.
Hawkins is hanging on by a thread as rotation player in the NBA. He is one of the worst shooters in the NBA in terms of actually making baskets.

Yep which is a surprise to many on the board. Just saying there is no such as sure thing NBA player and even harder being a star player there.

Why are some of you so miserable? Be happy for a kid who played supremely hard for us and at times completely carried us this year as he fulfills his dreams.

I don't really know what his long term Husky legacy will turn out to be. He missed 5 weeks. He had flashes of brilliance before and after, but he also really looked like a freshman at other times. He didn't have a necessarily "memorable" final few weeks.

I enjoyed watching him. Talented kid for sure, with a good hard nose for the game. No doubt he's going to be drafted high enough to never merit returning for another season, but I feel like his time here will turn out to be "meh" as years pass.
At the end of the day, his primary legacy will be a UConn player that got drafted first round and maybe lottery, and hopefully has a successful NBA career. Kind of like Drummond. That's not a bad thing, good for our reputation and good for him. Its unfortunate that his legacy won't be tied to a successful UConn basketball season, but that's not really his fault anymore than it is the entire team and coaching staff. This was unfortunately a season where the team had definite flaws and was not greater than the sum of its parts, and a freshman, even one of his caliber, could be expected to carry the team, especially when he was out half the season.

Nothing wrong with that. So, like Daniel Hamilton.

I'm seeing a few comparisons to Hamilton. I don't really get it. If Liam McNeeley returned and had a season as bad, if not worse, than his first season, then the comparison would be valid.

Does anybody think that would happen? Or can we agree he's a super talented player whose freshman season got derailed by an injury?

Yeah I was just explaining to that guy what he meant. Not that I agree.

Hopefully he gets drafted to a team that doesn’t throw him into the deep end of the pool right away. He needs a lot of work but has potential. I think a stint in the G or D league ( whatever they call it these days) to develop his game will be very beneficial for him. I wish him well. He was a good UConn Husky.

Bad decision but expected
What an absolute loser

I refuse to cry over this until he has an agent. Maybe if he misses the lottery he will come back. Just my thinking ….
Doesn't it not matter if he has an agent anymore... that changed a couple years ago

Is McNeeley still a lotto pick? looks like a lot of mocks had him fall outside

hope he kills it in the workouts and when he's invited to the combine. I think the lottery projection from Givony seems to be a bit outdated after what he put on film the past month and half.
They'd have to be assuming the injury hampered him a great deal for him to still be late lottery.

This is what we all suspected. Honestly, without the injury, nobody would have doubted it for a second. He showed enough early on. I'm not sure he's a lottery pick, but he should go in the 20s at least. Best of luck to him and I hope he has a great career and makes us proud.
