Per ESPN McNeeley is going pro

May I remind you that Liam is 19.
Ok that is fine. Either way being a key reserve in his 3rd year in the NBA on a championship team is not a bad ceiling for Liam at least to start his career. I'm not saying he will be like Bouknight out of the league in 3 years.

Says you. “Expected lottery pick”. Without question, this is the right decision. Unlike some selfish few, GMs are high on Liam’s potential. As they should be. Thanks for a great year Liam!
I would be stunned if he is lotto but if he is good for him

His ceiling is much higher than "key reserve" lmao.

Yeah, I hope Liam continues to improve and work on his shot and athletic ability(especially on Defense). He has really good strength and dribbling abiiity to do carve out time as a shooter/scorer at the next level if he does.
I think Liam will be fine once he gets on an NBA floor. I see a lot of Hauser talk, if Liam can get to that level, that’s a successful career. He just signed a $45 million contract, not too bad..

Happy for him.
Congrats Liam and thank you for choosing UConn and thank you for hosting Braylon Mullins on his recruiting trip.

OK I disagree. I don't see that yet out of him. His shooting was sub par and his defense was way below average. He has potential but he is going to have to improve a lot to be that type of player. Not saying he can't but I don't see it now. Also, like someone just mentioned Hauser singed a big contract in just his 3rd year. I would love for all our UConn players to at least do that when they get into the NBA. I think us UConn fans sometimes put our players on higher pedestals because they played for our team. Hawkins while a good player might have issues getting a new contract after his 3rd year and many of us thought he was a sure thing can't miss shooter.

There is not much difference he can make in staying another year on his draft stock. He's getting drafted because of his potential and his physical build which is that of a prototypical NBA wing.

There is a lot of downside in coming back. Much easier for a stock to go down.

He's making the right call, 100%. No doubt.

Absolutely. I think he's even getting credit for things he struggled with. Going into the draft with a good shooter rep with a meh shooting season overall.

He's got the tools and teams see that, hence the first round projection. Coming back would just be a risk

38% overall and 32% from 3 aren't lights out better. He might be stronger than Hauser but he lacked foot speed just like Sam does and it was highlited on defense.

Liam is a much more well rounded player after just 1 season than Hauser was after 4, which is why Liam is a lottery pick and Hauser went undrafted.

Hauser's turned himself into a good NBA player but Liam will start out his career with more tools in his belt. His offensive repertoire contains moves that Hauer took years to develop.

Liam is a much better prospect than Hawkins. I don't think that's up for debate.

Ok we will see where he ends up. I don't see him being a top star NBA player. I see him more as complementary piece on an NBA team. He will probably be a better overall scorer due to his ability to dribble but he still isn't a sure thing. Steph to me was a sure thing. Of course I thought Hawkins was a sure thing too so it is just opinions from us right now. I think he will get drafted first round for sure but not sure he is a lottery pick. I think 15-25 is where he might fall or end of lottery.

Hmmm ok again I will disagree. Hawkins was a lottery pick and a great shooter going in and a quicker athlete. I still think it was the right decision for Liam but let's not say he isn't sure thing NBA superstar at the next level.

Literally, no one has said LM is a "slam dunk NBA superstar"

Geez Louise...

He was asked to shoulder a huge load this year given some of the deficiencies in the team and more than he should have had to shoulder. Wish him the best and excited to see him develop on the NBA.
That, and, he was key in instilling the aggressive demeanor Hurley and co. want in their players. Pretty awesome to see a freshman with that much moxie to pair with his skills/IQ.

I'm the first to say when a guy is ready, that it's time to go. I really want him to have a long career not just a rookie deal, and the NBA is not a place to develop. He has a lot to work on. I wish him the best. With that said, the silver lining is if LM came back, we'd have lost JS, so I'm happy.

Well that is what you were making him out to be. We all have players we like better at UConn and while I'm glad he played for UConn I don't think he lived up to the expectations coming in for me at least. Really good player but with some serious warts that will need to be addressed at the next level for him to succeed.

No, there are a lot of roles between "key reserve" and "NBA all star" lmao

Bad decision but expected

I'm interested where he will be drafted as though he showed spurts of greatness he had issues too. His ability to shoot from the outside, drive and score wasn't top level while his defense wasn't good. He has skills but not sure how NBA GM's will see him at the next level. I guess i see him more in the 15-25 range now. It would of been nice to see him come back and work on some of his defiencies but with all that money staring him in he face for being a first round pick I understand why he left.
The highlighted part is somewhat like saying, "He's small, but he's slow." Then again, I suppose this is a better than a Larry David-type posting something like, "Why should anybody wish well for a guy who's leaving the team?"

I was previously in the mindset that if he wasn’t a lottery pick, he should come back and lead the team next year

But to be honest, it’s no secret we’re looking for a high impact PG that will get shots up. Solo is coming back as one of the best shooters in the game that is looking to expand his offensive game. Tarris is going to get a lot of touches next year. And we have 5 star shooter Braylon Mullins coming in

Liam took 11.5 shots a game, is there room for him to take more and make a bigger name for himself next year? I’m not sure. If a team will take him lottery or mid first round despite the efficiency issues, then it seems like a good decision to secure that NBA contract now, come in as a movement shooter role, and expand the scoring abilities in the league. Especially since he has a teammate and mentor in Karaban who got burned this year by coming back when he could have gone and hurting his stock

Congrats and best of luck to Liam!

Agreed….put him in the Daniel Hamilton category
Ehhh. Dan Hurley is (only) mostly forgotten because he’s in the Siberian C league. If McNeeley has a solid NBA career I’m sure we’ll claim him proudly. At least I know I will.
