LOL, you're calling that a road game?... AT UNC ....
LOL, you're calling that a road game?... AT UNC ....
So looks like Tenn fans get their wish being in the same bracket as Maryland. They were scared they'd be in ND's region. They think they can handle Maryland. Not so much on handling ND...
Prolly not but that would be great to see!
Can LadyVol beat Maryland?
Maryland sure handled Tennessee last season in the tourney. ..
Nope, don't think so. If both USCar and ND get to the FF, they will play each other. UConn will play the winner of the Spokane region.poisonally, i'm bugged about why N.D. and USCAR aren't playing off, assuming they both get to F.F., for the right to play us. they should be, since we already beat 'em both. we'll have to beat them both again, which, i guess, would just be more evidence of our superiority. so, what...
I saw Oregon State play in person once this year and a couple times on TV. IMO they aren't nearly as athletic as TN, so if TN can play good ball they shouldn't have a problem. That's always a big "if", and OR St. WILL play good ball. But TN should beat Oregon State.First, can we beat UTC? I would say probably since it will be at Thompson Boling. My concern is can we even get out of the sweet 16 with a possible/probably matchup against Oregon St.
True - this Tmt was a chance for USF to do some damage out of our bracket. The problem with USF is that they will be playing at home the first 2 rounds (since Louisville can't host), so they have a shot at making the 2nd weekend.
My issue is that there are 3 other brackets they could have been in, why stick UConn with a potential matchup with a team that they've already played three times, and close (in UConn terms) two of those three times? That's BS and a really crappy move for USF, UConn, and the AAC.
Alydar- U have innate "horse Sense" I think u may be dead on!!! Keep it up!Not accurate. The G-curve, or siting teams by nearness to the regions has been a consistent principle for at least 15 years, with the exception of last year when there were no regional sites. Remember, they put the S16 and E8 up for bid. Or do you think South Bend, Louisville, Lincoln and Stanford represented the 4 regions of the country. For the last 10 years predicting the regional assignment of the top 8 teams was simple as long as you knew their rankings. Until this year.
And as long as I'm being conspiratorial, here's a beaut. ESPN had Tenn in Albany until last week, when suddenly Creme had them in Spokane. ESPN suddenly started talking about how a Tenn-UConn rivalry was old news. The phrase used by Lobo was something like "that train left the station". My thinking is that that was a pile of BS. ESPN knows damn well that a Tenn-UConn game would be the biggest game around, but they know it would be a mismatch this year and if UConn blew the LV's out by 30+ the luster of the rivalry would disappear. But next year, when ESPN darling Diamond is playing, they can hype a game to the hilt. So ESPN made it clear to the NCAA, to whom they pay billions for basketball rights, that it would be better if they didn't send the LV's where the G-curve dictated they go.
Just my opinion of course.

Alydar- send me a priv Mes re your Albany seat location. We are probably very close to you! I'll stop and say hello! My theory may or may not be true but it is plausible. Remember, it was ESPN that promoted the "game" in 1995. They were the ones who got Pat to do it, reportedly for "the good of the game".
I'll admit I was highly disappointed when Tenn got sent out west. I have center court tickets in Albany and the game would have been the game of the year for many basketball fans. But I also had mixed feelings because I truly admire this year's LV team. Despite several injuries to key players they have persevered. They play more as a unit than any team in many years, despite having less talent. I would have felt sympathy if it turned into a rout. Now next year, when all-everything DeShields and a healed Russell along with the latest freshman savior, Cooper are all on the court, my Schadenfreude will be better.
I think ESPN will be pushing hard for a game next season, maybe even on MLK Day. And it will be at TBA in front of a sellout. A mirror of the game in 95.
Thus is the prophecy of Linkster.![]()

Tennessee was another #2 seed that played Tenn St. So the Lady Tigers probably should have got FSU, and Alabama St. should have been given to KY, which would profoundly have changed the Tournament. To piggyback on my frustration with the committee pairings, just realized Kentucky's first round opponent is Tennessee State! A team that Kentucky played THIS season and beat!?!?!
It's all our fault, guys The chair of the Committee is our Big 12 Associate Director Dru Hancock.
If you're looking for conspiracy backup--before she came to Big 12 she served for years at Tennessee. BUT, if you're looking for the more probable reason for headscratchers, just listen to her try to explain the February list of 20 "potential sites".
The woman is incompetent and never needs to have a microphone put in front of her, much less put there because of some role of authority she has.
My deepest apologies on behalf of our Conference.
(At the same time, though we do NOT have a Final Four team capacity on paper this year, and maybe an even much lesser round exit, and certainly not the kind of team to get past both Notre Dame AND SC to get to you guys, we are thrilled that for some strangely, unknown reason, the Committee's release diverted from Creme's season long Bracketology and put both us AND Oklahoma in the OKC Regional.)
And as for all the talk about who is and isn't in your region, it's quite obvious to me that this year the men's and women's brackets parallel in having an obvious UCONN vs.the Field and Kentucky vs. the Field, so early seeding really don't matter. There are only a handful of teams in the Field that can make for a decent final come early April in both the men's and women's brackets.
