Paige's Wings Page (merged thread)

Paige played 23 minutes, scored 15 pts on 75/50/67 shooting, with 5 rebounds, 6 assists, A/TO of 3.0 and 1 block…..ho-hum….

I hope the people in Dallas appreciate what they are about to experience.

Dallas actually looked good in last night's preseason against a Japanese Antelopes team. Not top talent, but some of the players I recognized from their Olympic team.

Dallas will find out that playing with Paige’s unselfishness is contagious and will make them a better team.
It might be happening already. Check out the postgame press conference with Paige and Arike.

VERY nice to see and hear, thanks. I especially liked Arike's reaction to the question which cited the possibility that, if this was last year, she might have taken forty shots. I might be reading too much into this, but I think the possibility of not having to be a one-woman team this year and replacing it with some beautiful team basketball (particularly with Paige, Dijonai and Maddie) is making her pretty happy.

My curiosity was peaked so I did a little checking. Last season, Arike averaged 19 shots per game which was only 2 shots per game more than she averaged during her last season at ND when she played on a national championship team. Games in the W as well as NCAA games are both 40 minutes long.

I don’t necessarily expect Arike to take fewer shots this season with Paige, Carrington and Siegrist in the lineup. But I do believe that more of her shots will come in the flow of the offense off Paige dimes than last season where she would often have to put up difficult shots going 1 on 1.

@oldude Speaking of Dallas dimes, they had 34 assists last night on 57 made buckets. 23 of those assists from the starting 5. Paige and Arike each had 6, but the rest of the team ain't slouches in the assist department. Sub-WNBA competition meant easier opportunities to be sure, but the Wings play looked competent and fluid.

Maybe just wishful thinking on my part but I want the Wings to be worth watching (and good for Paige's career).

Yesterday, before the Wings game, I purchased the WNBA League Pass, so I’m now committed for the season and also hope the Wings are worth watching.

I did the same thing yesterday. I have committed myself to following the Wings closely this year, even at the expense of my Sun, who I cannot identify with this year. Up to the day Paige was drafted, the Wings were the team I disliked the most. Drafting Paige will do that.

It’s even worse than that. I’ve started to root for Arike Ogunbowle…..

After watching Arike, I'm trying to figure out who she is, and if what she is saying about Paige is sincere. She is coming off as a good person, but we will see.
I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt. Also, Paige is the best teammate any player could ever want, and they both want to win.

I don't think the people of Dallas even know they are in Texas, I had an old friend from Dallas ask if I thought Bueckers would end up plying wide out or safety? :( That was a week ago, give them a month Dallas is a great pro sports city, they will embrace Paige like we here on the BY have for the past 5 years. Give Big D a chance, when tens of thousands of little girls start demanding to get Paige gear and make the trip to a game reality will strike... I love big D, just had to give a little dig, my friends there will get it.

Well, it looks like Paige won't be the only biggest star coming to Dallas this year as the Mavs have secured the #1 pick in the latest Mens NCAA draft. That means Cooper Flagg will probably be in Dallas next year, competing with our beloved Paige. I foresee many media driven promo pictures of them together this summer, with the Dallas area putting both players in the spotlight to promote big things happening in Dallas.

As info, the total value of Cooper Flagg’s 4-year rookie contract will be just over $62 million. For comparison, Paige’s 4-year rookie contract will be worth just over $348,000. As much as WBB has grown over the past few seasons, there is much more work to be done.

I have watched just about every interview with Paige by the Dallas media. I cannot believe how mature Paige is, especially in her official Media interview. Just listening to her and just watching her at practice tells me that she will emerge as the leader of that team by mid-season. She is not afraid to voice her opinion, or encourage her teammates during floor time. She is ready to take over, and from what I have seen, there is not any resistance. This will be Paiges team, which means they will continue to get better, on the floor and off. She is already showing her goofiness to her teammates, and that is really encouraging. I have a feeling CC will be the devil this year, and Paige will be the angel. Fever madness is getting out of hand, and their fans are the worse.

Thanks for the link—upon further exploration, and as an fyi for those who want to follow the Wings more deeply, the Dallas Hoops Journal has had good coverage of the Wings (and Paige!). A good site to bookmark:

Considering the relative value of Paige’s rookie contract, or lack there of, the DoorDash deal is a nice way for her to pick up some extra cash…..on those nights when the Wings don’t have games, Paige can earn a few dollars delivering Tex-Mex to customers in the Dallas area….:)
