Paige wins ROY

I'm guessing getting the number 5 jersey on any UConn BB team is going to be challenge in upcoming years. 😇
This is great! I almost forgot that Castle was the ROY in the NBA. Congrats to both of them, and a great advertisement for UConn to continue to produce elite talent for both men and women...

Leave it to ESPN to not mention that she was also awarded the 2025 Wade Trophy POY and Honda Sports Awards. The top 2 awards given out after the National Championship Game.
And take away from their excellent graphic work melding the uniforms together? 😉

I am a huge Citron fan but I can't think of any way to justify picking her over Paige.
In the stats I posted earlier in this thread, the ONLY statistic that Citron beat out Paige was 3 point shooting %. Apparently that is the ONLY metric those 2 voters looked at, and it was lazy voting to say the least.

As I've mentioned on this forum many a time, I've been a huge fan of Paige Buckets since early in her high school career, watching games online. A little bit ago, I was looking at MaxPreps and found that she scored 8.9 points per game and 3.9 rebounds per game... In 8th grade!

And it's not like she was on a desperate-for-players team... They went 29-3 that year.

I just hope the Wings can find some good roster mates for next year... And I also hope no player strike happens.

Also, I heard a side comment during the playoffs tonight that some positive things have happened on the labor front. Hope that works out!!

Just a minor oversight by ESPN? We all have seen how much ESPN, a Disney company, is heavily invested in Caitlin. There is a clear difference in ESPN's level of investment and media attention given to Clark vs Bueckers. ESPN has their obvious bias toward Clark. It's been covered pretty extensively on this forum and there shouldn't even be an argument about that based on the media attention they give Clark vs Bueckers but after all the back and forth as there surely will be by Clark fans I'll go with Geno's opinion: Bueckers is a better and "more unguardable' player. But that isn't going to change ESPN so there's no need even looking for it.

While I have always stated my belief that you start your team with Paige over CC because Paige elevates her teammates like no one else, I’m not particularly fond of the “either/or” nature of the comparisons between Paige & CC. I think both are great players. I look forward to seeing them compete against each other for years in the W, while also bringing home a bunch of Olympic gold medals together as the backcourt for Team USA.

This is regarding the graphic post by social media right? Do they not have the right to some artistic license with respect to the visual they want to publish? The reason I ask is that I don't see this as a slight the same way others have.

Plus, ESPN did a fair bit of coverage on Paige winning the award plus her season performance throughout the day when it was announced. All of ESPNs shows talked about it, and there was coverage on SportsCenter that evening.

CC elevated her teammates to lead the Fever to their first playoff in 8 years..Mitchell and Boston had career years because of Clark

Paige just gradulated from Uconn..what did you expect him to say

And Clark had the benefit of key cogs like Mitchell and Boston being on the team when she was drafted. Paige didn't have that situation in her case and still broke records.

Switch scenarios and it's very likely Paige would have had a similar impact with that same roster. Context matters when you make such statements.

Leave it to UConn fans to complain that the UConn player only got 97.2% of all votes
You are right, Nan. UConn fan exurberance can at times be a little too over exuberant. I'm old enough to know that is not going to change - and maybe it shouldn't; it's what makes UConn, UConn.

Not complaining, but a player who set records at the Basketball Capitol of the World and led the team to a national championship and then set records as the ROY should get everyone's vote and attention 100% of the time, no question. I will acknowledge that can be labeled as a completely biased opinion (some may even see it as a complaint) from an overly exuberant fan, but one who won't change. 😊

Well … Boston’s scoring fell a half point and her FG percentage dipped from 58 to 53 in year two. So not really. Giving Clark credit for a “career year” for someone in their second season, when the sample size is 2, is a little silly to begin with, but the stats don’t even reflect that.

Mitchell’s scoring did go up a point from 18.2 to 19.2 and FG percentage improved from 44 to 47 … so you could fairly say it was a career year for scoring efficiency (and it’s fair to say CC had something to do with that, drawing attention and getting her better looks). But Mitchell also became very one dimensional. Her assists dipped under 2 (from 3.1 to 1.8) for the only time in her career and her A-to-TO ratio was a career-worst 1.1. In 2022 (when the Fever admittedly stunk) she averaged 18.4 points on 43 percent shooting with 4.2 assists and a 1.8 assist to turnover ratio. That’s arguably a better individual season than 19.2, 47 pct, 1.8 assists and a 1.1 ratio.

Meanwhile this year with CC out, Mitchell has almost doubled her assists back up to 3.4 - greatly improved her A:TO ratio to 1.9 - and her scoring has also gone up to 20.2. She’s having her career year this year without Clark. She’s likely first team all W.

We saw this same phenomenon at Iowa with the disrespect for Monika Czinano - who scored 2500 career points and shot 68 percent in every year she started (even the year before CC got there). But the narrative now is that she’s just one of those randos who was carried, instead of the closest thing to an automatic bucket that college hoops has seen this century.

Paige got plenty of attention from ESPN. The game where she dropped 44 was all over their featured media pieces. She's regularly been highlighted despite playing on the worst team in the leauge. Ever her injuries were headline news.

It's truly amazing how Clark lives rent-free in people's heads on this forum.

Congrats to Paige on an incredible rookie season. Very glad to see her healthy and making her mark on the league, well deserved. Also, I'm sure she could care less about winning "just" 70 of the 72 of 1st place votes.

Also, why is CC being pulled into this thread? She's been out almost the entire and is completely irrelevant to Paige winning ROY. Is it really that hard to let a thread celebrating Paige be about celebrating Paige?
