In an article from Outkick, there is an X video asking Paige questions about her girlfriend, with the reveal at the end that it's Azzi... I can't link the X video but found the original on TikTok

Loved to hear what seemed so natural and true for so long. Only sad that this was a news story at all, let alone one that seems deemed not to be allowed? Love and admire them separately, love and admire them even more together. :)
 
Yeah, I can see this particular kind of topic would be a bit...awkward for the denizens of this board to discuss. For a variety of reasons, lol.

I figure the best thing is to let Paige and Azzi tell their separate and together stories in the manner they see fit, with the timing they see fit. It's gotta be draining being a young athlete with celebrity recognition these days, because you attract a small explosion of social media attention - not all kind or respectful of boundaries.

As for me, I'm just in favor of people finding their happiness. :)

You are fortunate if you find the right partner in life. People in the public sphere are no different. Rebecca Lobo has a great marriage; Sue Bird clicked with Megan Rapinoe, and I'm happy for both Paige and Azzi.

It’s not the topic that hasn’t been allowed, it’s some of the responses
 
Honestly, I have read the various articles teasing their relationship and I am really not sure if Paige & Azzi are in fact a “couple” or they are just having some fun with everyone. What I am absolutely certain of is that they are both wonderful young ladies and fantastic basketball players.

It’s not recent. They were outed on Twitter last year and UConnNation and Paige fans on social media responded en masse to protect them from the trolls. Those same trolls were posting about Angel Reese, too. Some people need to get a life

It's only worth discussing because they played for the same school. The same would be true if either were dating someone from the men's team.

Without the team/school connection, who any current or former player is dating is a tabloid level waste of bandwidth.

That, and the fact that their narrative was one of "best friends" so this "feels" inconsistent for Connecticut fans, just finding out about it. That will generate discussion as people assimilate the new Info.

Two thoughts come to mind. The first is that as "fans" of the team" we are entitled to exactly 0 information about players' personal life. When they choose to share something publicly, we should celebrate it with them. The second is that those of us who have been around awhile realize finding someone you care about and want to spend time with and who returns those feelings isn't easy or automatic. It's one of the best parts of life. It is always something that should be celebrated. JMO.
 
They've been together for a while. It's a newsworthy story because they were the #1 recruits in high school, they've been two of the biggest names in women's basketball for a long time, they're best friends, teammates at UConn, won a college basketball championship together, Paige is already one of the few best players in the WNBA.
 
I like that it’s out now, so soon everyone can focus on basketball. I think it’s the perfect timing. Last year would have been bad timing and now that the UConn season is in break it’s perfect. WNBA doesn’t matter because Paige is now in the real world and she can handle whatever however she wants. Different for Azzi who is still at UConn. I like the timing.

Not sure what this is implying regarding "messaging", however in my view, the messaging of any person's/peoples' relationship is theirs to decide if and when to share, no one else's. For quite a while, there were folks "in the know' about Diana & Penny, and Sue & Megan, and yet it wasn't a story until it was. I had no idea that Stewie and Marta were a couple until Stewie posted an engagement picture on instagram, and I thought, cool, they're happy.

Frankly, good for "Pazzi" (as they are referred as online) to feel confident in sharing it with the world, as there are many athletes (and non athletes) who take years, if at all, to share it in public. :cool: <3
 
I've been following Paige since she was in 10th grade and Azzi since she was in 9th grade. I am not surprised at all, but am very happy for both of them. In addition, I am happy for them individually. Paige has become a star in the W and is a major celebrity in the All-Star festivities. Meanwhile, Azzi overcame her own injuries to become the Final Four MOP and is now making the rounds with the media as she prepares for her own podcast. She is no longer the quiet, insecure young woman. They have become a young power couple.

When they met at USA Basketball, Azzi knew of Paige's reputation. Her initial impression was along the lines of "That skinny kid is the great Paige Bueckers? I don't need to worry about her." Then Paige scored on 5 or 6 straight possessions, causing Azzi to reassess.

Azzi has family in Minnesota, where she spent summer vacations. She probably hung out with Paige while there. I know that Paige visited Azzi here in Arlington during an extended school break. As most of you know, Paige made a strong case for Azzi to come to UConn, which eventually she did. They have been BFFs for about 6 years. Their dynamic is interesting and fun. Though there is lots of teasing, it is obvious that they care for each other. Best wishes to Peanut Butter and Jelly, P Buckets and the People's Princess!
 
Look, the bottom line is we all love Paige and Azzi, two wonderful people in and out. They started as competitors, became teammates, joined the same school, and shared a lot of time together along with the rest of the team. I think they have known each other long enough to understand what love is, and if it is true, which I think it is, I wish them all the happiness which each of them deserve. Now, the only thing that may derail this is Dallas, if they get the pick, may not pick Azzi. They just traded Nylessa Smith who was the girlfriend of DJ Carrington. I expect to see Paige at a lot of UConn games next year before Unrivaled begins.
