Paige Bueckers expected to miss rest of regular season

This is the way I saw on 2/12 and continue to see Paige's return schedule assuming she is completely healthy. If she is not 100% then wait until next year.

Paige should be gradually integrated into the team practices timed for her to go full speed in the first practice after the final game of the Big East tourney either 8 or 9 March. This gives her 9-10 days of team practice before UCONN's first NCAA tourney game. UCONN's first two games of the NCAA tourney will give her all the game experience she will need. If the team can't win the Big East championship and tourney without her then they don't deserve to partake of the NCAA tourney.

I am reminded of 2017 when Kia had a high ankle sprain, causing her to miss the last 2 weeks of the season. Kia rehabbed intensely and was able to see limited action in the AAC tournament. Subsequently, she exploded during the Big Dance, setting an NCAA tournament record for most made 3’s in only 5 games, shooting a blistering 22/32 from the arc.

I suspect all of us would love to see Paige go off this year in the Big Dance, just as Kia did in 2017. :)

Good to hear they're NOT rushing her back. While she's as good or better then most at 80-85% , it's not worth the risk!
I think they will be fine without her once this core group of 8 get 5-6 games played together getting rid of the rust some have and building team chemistry. JMHO.....

Defensively her mobility would seem to be a huge problem. There is zero reason for her to play probably even during the Big East tournament. If she's not healthy even then shut her down. It's a game.

I'm not sure what 85% even means when talking about Paige.
Any player can start off a game being 100%, and within 15 minutes of playing they could only be performing at 85% because they're temporarily fatigued.
Then with a little bench rest or a time out, they're back up to 99.9%.
I think that many if not all players perform in spurts.
When everyone is running up & down the court, they're all experiencing fluctuations in their metabolism that can temporarily rob them of their maximum potential.
But some players have an extra performance gear that others may not have.
I don't think that anyone really knows how it all works, but the body has a lot of chemical reactions going on, and then there's the brain and the spirit.
Between the body, mind and the spirit, there must be some give & take between them that allows a person to excel despite a temporary deficiency in one of them.
No one uses 100% of their brain anyway, so maybe 100% of a person's body is never actually being utilized when playing basketball either.
What percentage of the body is being used to make a shot?
20%? 30%? 40%? Keep guessing because I don't know either.
"If it makes Paige feel good, then just let her do it"
I'm sure that Geno will let Paige do it when she says that she's ready.
But maybe only in small spurts at the very beginning during team work outs.
Then "Paige will be Paige."
"Let Paige be Paige!"
Geno already has enough gray hair!

With all do respect, you can not possibly make such a statement if you are not observing Paige in practice every day or are a member of the medical staff who are evaluating her and managing her therapy and rehab.

I Agree with you. Straight ahead mobility is one thing BUT, Lateral side to side movement is a whole different animal with a Knee injury.

Also quad/hamstring strength, which if imbalanced on the affected leg, and also compared to the other leg is unequal, and if proprioception is lacking, there's a lot that will affect performance.

Here are my Words of Wisdom. Paige will be back when Paige gets back. We know nothing, we cant predict anything and all we know is we dont know anything about whats going on or what to expect. As for the team they are what they are.

But in 6 games, all wins. ;)

None of us, and I do mean none, know what Paige is able to do right now or in the immediate future.

We are not at practices. We do not know the plan that was set forth for her rehab. We do not know what she is physically able to do at this point in time. So we need to sit back and have a lot of trust that the process will work.

I have no opinion on whether or not Paige should return...obviously, we don't want her back on the floor if she isn't ready to return...we don't want to see her injured again...so, whatever time is needed, "patience is the better part of valor".

I will say the following, however, UConn is a second seed with 3 regular season games and the Big East Tournament remaining. If UConn wins out and we have Paige for the NCAAs the committee is going to have to take that into consideration...and place UConn accordingly. We all know that Geno and staff play for the post season. I could easily see UConn moving up to #5 which would make them the number 1, "two seed." I like that better than ranked #4 where we would be the number 4, "one seed".

Should the committee consider injuries when seeding all teams or just UConn?

Maybe that is why Geno is practicing using a zone defense, which I stated in another thread that I hated it. It’s the 2-3 zone that looked awful to me- if they play a 1-2-2 or a 2-1-2 version, it might work better. In theory, zones do operate with less individual movement by the players, which would help with any mobility limitations

2,3,4 seed…what’s the difference? This is supposed to be a FF team with “Unfinished Business”. If they are, it doesn’t matter who they play or where they play to get there.

I think you may have misunderstood what I was saying...I wasn't saying that the committee should give UConn special consideration. However, what I was referring to is UConn is a very different team with Paige on the floor, she was the player of the year last year. Her being absent from the team since December would definitely have an impact on UConn if she were to return. If she is healthy I would guess the committee would factor it in when they determine where they should rank and send UConn. If there is another team whose number one player who was a player that has a major impact on the team...you know kind of like what would happen if Aliyah Boston were to come back into South Carolina's line-up after being gone since December...I am sure the committee would factor that in as well.

If you think that a 2, 3 or 4 seed doesn't make a difference that certainly is your opinion and you are entitled to it. I on the other hand, believe that seeding does make a difference.

Which type of knee injury is that?
All knee injuries are not the same, right?
As I'm not a Dr , my best guess would be Most. I use to be an Athlete in my youth and experienced knee sprains, and a hyperextension.

Well, 2 or 3 is certainly better than 4. Gives one more warm-up game before playing 1. But 2 is only marginally better than 3, at best.

They said just a few days ago that she wasn't even trying lateral movement yet. She was running straight up and down the court. You can mostly choose how you move offensively. If you have to keep in front of a moving opponent, defense would appear to be the more physically challenging aspect of overcoming most knee injuries. Beyond her health, which of course is the top priority but hypothetically even beyond that, she has to be better than the players we have already or what is the point of her being on the court? If she can't defend well, she's a detriment rather than an asset. Remember when Azzi had the foot injury and struggled to defend? We could be in the same situation again if we aren't careful.

You're right about lateral movement and meniscus surgical repairs.
However sources say that recovery could take as long as 3 months.
She must be on her own timeline, not being rushed and doing a lot of therapeutic exercises.
There's still more time to improve her conditioning enough to be able to help the team.
