I can't believe she missed one.....
LOL right? She's one of those players who NEVER seems to take a bad shot, and everything she hoists, I think it's going in.

There are many players who are volume shooters. They would need 35-40 shots to get 32 points in a game. They take bad, contested, ill-advised, or crazy out of control driving shots. It's very clear now why Geno kept harping on her "take more shots!!!". She hardly misses.

I asked in another thread but perhaps here is best. What is the record for 3pt% in WCBB for a season? Record for a Freshman?

She can literally score the amount Geno asks her to score. Need 40 coach, no problem.
With the injuries, she needed to score more so she did. She also passes away some of her point blank shots near the basket.
When this covid stuff is over, the first thing I am going to do is buy a ticket to see this phenom in person!!

I have noticed that when she misses her pull up shots she "drifts" forward rather than going straight up. Doesn't happen often.

Geno said that the more Paige shoots, the better the team will be... I am so glad she is finally listening to him. The more teams try to stop her, the more open looks she will have for her teammates... 7 assists in addition to her 32 points... and another almost impossibly high shooting percentage... I can't express how happy I am to have her to watch for at least the next two years.... and hopefully more!

Paige was in perpetual motion today. Darting in and out in the lane and running around screens. Never stopped. Probably got a bit tired leading to a few missed shots in the 2nd half

Going out on a limb here, but looking back at Maya, Diana, Stewie, and anyone else's freshman year, Paige is by far the better all around player at this point in her career. I'm talkin' running the team, scoring, assists, steals, rebounds. and joyful exuberance.

I would have to disagree with that sentiment entirely, specifically the ‘by far” and ‘all around’ parts. Paige has been exceptional so far as both a facilator and scorer. There is probably a bit of recency bias and it it especially hard to make this comparison primarily because All the player you mentioned had significantly better teammates that Paige does.

Nobody is Maya. Difference between Paige and Maya? Paige shoots at a higher percentage from 3. Is a better passer and ball handler. Maya was stronger, more athletic ,could score in more ways, better rebounder and defender. All around player? Nobody touches Maya. Paige will be our best point guard of all time by the time she is finished.

Cannot say Paige is Maya certainly.

But Paige can score in more different ways. Maya's way though proved to championship elite.

You need to relook at Maya’s freshman stats as I had posted the other day. Paige is absolutely in “Maya stratosphere” which is ahead of Stewie and Diana as freshman. Maya had slightly more rebounds per game, Paige had more assists, Maya had many more block, page has mor steals. Paige is only 12 games into her freshman year (she missed a game due to her ankle) while Maya went 36-2, losing in the semis.
Too many people only remember the whole body of work over 4 years, not what they started at. What Paige is doing is rarified and absolutely in direct comparison or better than any other freshman in UConn lore. Just enjoy it.

Also, we see that Paige is also mentally very strong. Two of her 3's came after she missed fairly easy 2 pt shots and UConn got the Off Rebound, got it back into Paige's hands and immediately drilled 3pt shots. Like she wanted to immediately atone for her misses.

Fits with Geno's observation that she has a good temperament and does not let negative plays affect her.

The thing is, I think she is one of those players who thinks every shot is going in. That kind of confidence (coupled with talent) usually translates into a good shooting %.

My opinion: it is extremely difficult, maybe impossible, to make comparisons with former players. Why? 2 reasons. 1. it's impossible to "un-see" 4 years of a former players ability and compare it to a 13 game freshman. 2. Stats don't tell the whole story. Moving pieces from year to year are different, i.e. different teammates, different opponents, different things are required, etc. Like GA said, you can't stick your toe in the same river twice.

So, we are just discussing how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.

I know sometimes this discussion is splitting hairs, but I will stand by the observations of this long time UConn women obsessive compulsive; Paige is overall better at this stage of development in her career than any other Husky player at an equivalent time!
