Overseas 22-23 Thread

It will be a difficult choice for players on the team, Gabby Williams, Marine Johannes and also Julie Allemand from Belgium
Gabby & Lyon won the Euro Cup

Kiah and Stewie then swept the turkish finals againt Mersin with Tiffany Hayes (3-0)

Lyon and Gabby just finished the regular season with a win, they will meet KML's team of La Roche Vendée in the quarter finals

Here's a link to an article about the difficult choice Gabby Williams will have to make, Marine Johannes will have the same choice to do :

Of interrest, also, Anna Makurat played with Sassari (ITA) this season, they lost 2-0 in quarter finals
Anna finished with good stats of 10.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5 assists in the 26 games regular season.
In 9 of their 10 Euro Cup games, she was 11.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.9 assists

If Fenerbahce keeps the same team, there is a great chance to succeed in repeating

All of the top 6 winning players have won with Ekaterinburg - Since the ukrainian war and BG's detention, it's pretty sure Russia will never again (at least for the next few seaons) attract players, so Turkey is the best paying and most able to get titles.

The top 10 in a few years will get a lot of players having played for a turkish team

When the war is done, I think Russia will still attract top talent. Sadly, money talks. Some top volleyball players are still playing in Russia in spite of them not being able to compete on Euro or other international leagues.

I truly wish she stayed.

.-.
3 of the 10 play for Fenerbahce, and I think Courtney Vandersloot didn't qualify for an award because she came late in the season

So, since the last post, Fenerbahce has won the Euro League with Kiah and Breanna, Stewie being name the the MVP

I was wrong, they meet Charleville-Mézières (Flammes Carolo) in the quarters, and KML with La Roche meet Lattes-Montpellier (BLMA)

So Lyon & Gabby qualified for french semis with 2 wins ( 91-79 & 85-47), they will play Bourges
Game 1 for Gabby : 14 points, 4 rebounds, 7 assists in 29 minutes
Game 2 for Gabby : 12 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals in 18 minutes off the bench

Sunday ended the finals in Spain. Valencia beat Avenida(KLS and Tif's former team) 2 games to 0 in the finals. The game on Sunday was at Avenida. About 10 minutes after the game the Avenida fans kept singing the team song for their home team. I was at 2 games in Salamanca, in the 21/22 season. Great "Old" venue and great fans.

If you ever make it to Spain, during a basketball season, try to make it to a game. Salamanca is about 1.5 hours, by express train from Madrid. You can order tickets on line. Stay overnight in Salamanca and go to the Plaza. Great chance you will meet the players outside the Starbucks in the Plaza, weather permitting.
After all of Avenidas games the players sit on the floor and stretch out, you will see them as the camera pans to the right, blue uniforms. The players will often talk to the fans after they stretch. Nearly all players can speak English.

This is what the twitter post says, translated Spanish--> to English.

"When I decided to record this video, more than ten minutes had passed since Perfumerías Avenida had lost the final. It's the same chant as when they win, with the same intensity as when they win and showing the same gratitude as when they win. Priceless value"

In game 1 of the semis, Lyon and Gabby fell to Tango Bourges 67-80

Gabby had 15 points, 2 rebounds & 4 assists shooting 7/15, 0/3, 1/2

.-.
With Villeneuve d'Ascq (Lilles) Maia Hirsch the first round pick of the draft had 9 points and 1 rebound in 11 minutes of the bench - They won 75-60

Gabby won the the french national title just playing in game1 (the loss) of the finals which Lyon won 2-1

I hope, next year France will do as all other countries, to make the calendar fit the WNBA rules
But I must say that this prioritization rule is just a joke, and for this the WNBA is ugly

Now that the season has started, what will happen to all the euro players that want to do their National training camps ?
