Unless the WNBA is going to start paying more, I don't see the players turning down the money that the European leagues are offering. If you have enough high value players playing and staying to play in the playoffs, missing their cutoffs. It may just force the WNBA to move the season back instead of missing the play of people like Stewie and others.

KLS sister, Karlie, had a career scoring night for Townsville(Australia) of 31 points on 11 for 14 shooting overall(7/10 from 3 point territory) Townsville now holds onto 1st place with 4 games to go in regular season.

Liv is on the Melbourne Boomers and had 17 points and 10 rebounds in the game.

Highlight of Karlies shots.

To flesh that out a bit, our best understanding of how prioritization works:
-If Gabby's club team Lyon makes it to the French league finals (currently one of four teams that have separated themselves from the rest of the teams), she will not be allowed to play in the WNBA season because they cannot end before opening day.
-If Gabby participates in anything in the link above in May, then she is not allowed to play in the WNBA season.
-She is smart enough not to do this, but if she were under contract and left in May, she would not be allowed to play in either the rest of the 2023 season or any of the 2024 season.
-If she was under contract and she joined the national team within the two week window that is allowed, she would have to return to the team within 48 hours of France's last game or she would be done for 2023 and not able to play in 2024.
-If her club team does not make the finals, it might make sense for both her and Seattle to agree for her to sign with them in June after EuroBasket.

Julie Allemand, for the same reason?
She is choosing to sit out the season, but she is not subject to prioritization due to not being in the league long enough. She is under contract so if she was late, the team would have to carry her salary on the cap even if they were not paying her so both sides seemed to think that this was for the best. She has also battled injuries all season so some extended rest would probably help her.

Meesseman is different in the sense that she would have to avoid being with the Belgian national team in May if she wants to play in the WNBA this year, regardless of whether she has signed a contract. European stars generally feel that they are disrespecting their national team teammates by not participating in as much of pre-tournament training as possible.

Thanks for the information and explanations. Greatly appreciated.
I like Allemand and thought she would've fit in nicely as a change of page for the Sky.

Pretty sure that she would not be able to do that. The WNBA and NBA have an agreement to abide by FIBA's Letter of Clearance system even though they are both unsanctioned leagues. Every time that a player moves between leagues in different countries that participate in the system, the national federation of previous team must provide a letter to the national federation of the new team that states that the player has completed all contract obligations.

Johannes has not been in the WNBA long enough to be subject to prioritization so she can arrange whatever she wants with the Liberty. Theoretically, both parties would have actually benefitted from her only signing once she is ready to report, but this seems to be their approach for now.

As many of you know, Famila Schio beat up on Sopron 81-50 and were led by soon-to-be-Chicago Sky Marina Mabrey who had 23 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and an efficiency rating of +22. That's all well and good, but what I want to share is the highlights package
and the play-by-play announcer, who got into Mabrey's performance more and more. I've never heard these lines in a broadcast:
"Take a bow Mabrey, you're excellent!" Although I've got to admit, her handle is now becoming top notch.

Gabby Williams with 19 points and 9 rebounds leads her French team, LDLC Asvel, to a win in game one of the Euro Cup semis vs French rival Villeneuve 84-80. Game two is next Thursday.
Didnt recognize Ms Williams, at first, with the new Doo.
