Other American Bowl Games (Every Game But UConn)

Replacing an outstanding game-changing dual threat QB with an injured, albeit very good backup QB was going to have huge impact on Houston's explosive offense. Replacing a mediocre, game-managing QB with a less-than-mediocre game-managing QB...
You're saying Postma is better than Sherieffs. Hello.

The win against Houston might be our biggest regular season win in program history now.

That's utter bull shot. The disadvantage UConn was at with our backup was huge comparatively. Ward is very good, Postma is good. Sheriffs is pretty good, Tim Boyle has been genuinely bad thus far in his UConn career. I hate to say much more about our QB situation for fear of being overly negative.

We won that game because our defense did what it always does and our offense didn't make the mistakes it normally does to cost us the game. As I said earlier, our defense is so good, people can't get their head around it because we have been so bad for several years.

Byron Jones was a first round pick (our highest ever) after our worst season in the FBS era.

The AAC is going to earn a lot of respect this offseason.

Ward played in the UConn-Houston game. He was 1-4 with an interception.

Game stats

Come on. UConn beat Houston but they didn't have one of the best players in the country. It's football - it's part of the game.

UConn won the game because they won the game.

Houston turned the ball over like crazy and UConn got one huge break.

They played well at home and won the game. Obviously Houston had a better team but the individual games count and UConn outplayed them that night.

It's why they play the games on the field. There is no need to qualify the win or pretend it means more than what any other upset means.

This Houston win is not the magic bullet to cure all of our realignment issues, but it will help solidify the American as the only conference in stuck in realignment purgatory ... caught somewhere between P5 (heaven) and G5 (hell) from a performance perspective.

More to the point - he tried to play but really couldn't.

Well said....UConn was also able to run the ball that game, keeping Houston's offense off the field. Newsome was a workhorse carrying 32 times for 114 yards. In contrast, FSU's Dalvin Cook, considered one of the most explosive backs in the country, was held to 33 yards on 18 carries by the Houston defense.

The point I'm making is that it's ridiculous to be upset because the announcers mention that Houston's one loss came when Ward was injured and didn't play - it clearly had an impact on the outcome of the game and is a valid point. It's doubly ridiculous to be upset because the announcers don't mention that Shirreffs was injured as well. There's a world of difference between the two situations. Nobody is saying that Houston should be undefeated - injuries happen to every team and they're part of the game. It's just that some injuries have a bigger impact than others.

It's New Years Eve and your team just won a major bowl vs a top 10 team. It needs to be asked. You are here why?

geez Louise!! Instead of embracing other opinions from the conference your pushing people away? That's not right. :(

Agree with the bolded part of your statement above. The difference in impact (to Houston) between Postma playing in place of Ward was not nearly as great as the impact to UConn in having Boyle play in place of Shirreffs. Anyone who follows UConn football knows that with crystal clarity. And as was already mentioned, other factors contributed to the UConn win against Houston, mainly a stout Husky D and Arkeel Newsome.

Notwithstanding the absence of starting QB's on both teams, we beat the the Todd Orlando Houston defense that was touted all season and lauded in the Peach Bowl yesterday. What it says is this. Don't sleep on UConn next year or the Huskies will be the team playing on New Year's weekend.

Your statement that some have a bigger impact is right, but your conclusion is backward. Houston's backup had the opportunity to play the week before, and practice all week knowing he was going to play. UConn's QB was hurt early in the game and a backup with a much larger skill gap than the one between Houston's qb's had to come in cold and play. That is a much bigger impact and the reason UConn fans take offense that it is not mentioned.

Seriously, whenever the more "prestigious" school loses in a bowl game its because they really didn't want to be in this or that bowl. I am so sick of that.

Yes.

Based upon what I saw, Houston is a better team. If they played FSU 100 times, Houston wins 80 of them.
