OT: Your Favorite 3 NBA Players of All Time

A lot of us showing age here. I'm guessing the 20-somethings would say a lot of Steph and Bron. Younger kids are stanning Giannis, SGA, Tatum

My honorable mentions are guys like Glen Rice, Hakeem, Penny.

.-.
Magic Johnson. Loved the smile the passing, the pace of play. Showtime was fun.
Larry Bird. Loved the competitiveness, the shot making and knack for making a play.
Hakeem Olajuwon. So athletic. So active on defense. Never seemed to take a play off.

Bill Russell
Oscar Robertson
Third place is too close to pick one, for totally different reasons, between Magic and Earl Monroe.

1. Dr. J
2. Jordan
3. Shaq

Just b/c I met Dr. J a few times, Jordan twice, and Shaq about 4 times. All amazing personalities and fun guys.

.-.
Not including UConn players:

Jason Williams (the Marshall/Florida one not the Duke one)
Carmelo Anthony
Rajon Rondo

Brandon Roy probably would have been number 1 if he could have stayed healthy for longer

Anyone that died in 2003 has to be wondering how only one person's said T-Mac. Same with Gilbert Arenas a few years later.

Jokic is climbing the ladder for me. LeBron feels obvious. Kawhi might've been my third if he could've stayed on the court. I wanted to pick Draymond or Ben Wallace to show some love for defense but I can't justify it. Duncan's a guy that bored me to tears for most of his career that I'd appreciate a lot more today.

Not me - I didn't care for T-Mac in 2003 and I still don't now that people on the twitterverse are trying to make him into Kobe. I think Kobe is overrated too, so I guess it's not totally wrong.

Kobe was one of my favorite players also. But it’s true, unfortunately after his death he has been thrust into conversations which he really doesn’t deserve.

He is a borderline Top-10 player OAT, which is incredible in its own right. But, people forcing him into their top 5 or top 3 is just silly.

George Yardley, Bob Pettit, Wilt. NBA scoring champs 1958 to1966 when I started watching. Yardley was 1st player to score 2,000 points in a year.

.-.
Walt "Clyde" Frazier - the epitome of cool for the Knicks and Nyc
Dr. J Don't think an explanation is necessary
Ray Allen smooth

Ray Allen, Kemba Walker - pretty self explanatory

Steph Curry - I think he might have the greatest hand-depth-eye coordination in human history, and he's very easy to root for.

T-Mac was probably more Durant than Kobe. Maybe 'Melo. He wasn't the shooter KD is, but he was one of the first at his size to play like a guard. Not everyone loved the iso-heavy style of that era, though.

IDK. Have you ever talked to a Kobe stan? They sure as hell didn't need him to die to make him into a mythical figure.

I think Melo is proper - T-Mac was more explosive but he was also a volume scorer and his teams never did anything.

Whether that’s fair or not, even at the time I was down on him as a player because of those things.

Paul Silas I was a 10 and 10 guy too.

Cowens
The Big E
Gus Johnson all scorers and rebounders.

Kemba - UConn same time as me so naturally makes the list
Castle - Since the day i saw his first tape needed the commit and ever since he's delivered everything. Thrilled to watch his career develop.
Blake Griffin - Everytime you watched him he'd seemingly do something that defied gravity most exciting player of my lifetime

I think calling him a volume scorer is somewhat harsh (I'd reserve that label for someone like AI), but he certainly wasn't LeBron or KD.

The lack of team success bothers me less than the lack of longevity given how limited his teammates were in those Orlando days. He seemed to peak in his early 20s hence why I'm using 2003 as my cut-off for the purposes of this discussion.

I guess when I say that, I mean he didn't do much else in my opinion other than get a lot of buckets - he shot a lot, maybe not to the level of AI but AI was a superstar the second he stepped into the league.

T-Mac was always a really athletic and aesthetically pleasing player that didn't do much to make his team win. He got buckets, and he was good at it. But I just don't think he was that great a player.
