Still in off season mode. . . . . . . .

I know there will be a lot of MJs but for me as a guard, it was Walt Frazier (I'm dating myself). Partly because I was a Knick fan but he had a smooth jumper and was great on D. I spent countless days and nights emulating him.

Clyde Drexler, unfortunately I couldn't jump and Drexler's fundamentals were not to be emulated by any mere mortals. Having a really awkward jump shot and staring at the ball while dribbling on a fast break only seems to work when you are 6'7 and one of the best athletes on the planet. To this day I say Drexler is the most unique player ever in the NBA, nobody played like him.

I was an early 70s Knicks fan when I was very young . Out of all the greats on that team, Clyde, earl the pearl, Willis reed, Dave D ....,
I modeled my game after Jerry Lucas. Simply because my dad would take to MSG and Lucas would be hitting half court hook shots in warm ups .
 
I always considered myself a poor mans MJ with the passing skills of Stockton and the accuracy of Ray Allen and I was pretty much Mutombo on defense. Also I never could dribble without looking at the ball so I couldn't really show off my skills.

This is serving as a "how old are you" thread. I was always pretending to be Ray Allen in the driveway.

Dr J and Gerald Henderson were my two favorites. It sucked at times being the only kid in town who loved basketball and hated hockey.

Dr.J was who I wanted to play like, but my game was much closer to Greg Kite :eek:

At one point I did develop a Dick Barnett "fall back baby" jumper though.

What I failed to mention is they actually called me Walt Razor cuz I always drew blood, scratching dudes playing defense going for steals.

Mark Price. I realized that if I could shoot like him, I could dominate school boy games. I spent hours a day shooting jumpers and free throws. I love shooting a basketball. Its so therapeutic, even now.

I also took some post moves from Adrian Dantley and Kevin McHale. I had two really tall friends that became D1 players and I learned some sick pivot moves so I could score on them. I'd throw 4-5 fakes and duck unders and then shoot it. It feels great when you put a move like that together and finish it.

I watched a lot of Celtic games back then and I always rooted against them for some reason. I loved pulling for Price and the Cavs, the Bad Boy Pistons and the Hawks with Dominique Wilkins and Doc Rivers, to beat the Celts.

In retrospect, I loved watching Bird and McHale, but I just didn't like them for some reason. I preferred the Lakers and Dr J's Sixers. It was so awkward for me to become a Celtic fan when Ray was there, but I did. It hasn't stuck though. Once he left, I lost interest. I've never really had a lasting passion for any NBA franchise.
 
Sort of a mix. I was a 6-3 guard/forward who was taller (but not stronger) than a lot of my defenders so I would post up and attempt McHale/Olajuwon type of moves. On the perimeter and defensively, I tried to emulate Scottie Pippen.
 
Always loved to do the Clyde head fake up and under move.
I also loved Connie Hawkins game but that is where the comparison between me and him started and ended.

But I would have to say Spencer Haywood because anyone who saw me play the first word that would come to mind would be "hardship" :)
 
KEA. It's good to have at least some similarities with your role model.
 
More of a Isaiah Thomas, but I recently remodeled my game identical to Brandon Jennings. Yes, I'm a flashy show off.

Clearly im too young for this forum.. But I modeled my jersey number off of Rip... Did his free throw routine for a while but definitely did not play like him. I guess more of a Jason Kidd, enjoyed the assists more then the shot. Ran the point my whole life, being a midfielder in soccer, seeing the whole court and dishing the rock was my thing. Now a days I wish I could play like Uncle drew though, handles are out of this world.
