OT Where is the best burrito in CT?

I had a pretty good one in East lyme but it was more tex mex style and the hide away in old lyme did a good one back in the day, again, very much American style but by that standard, tasty. I don't know of anything that could be consided more authentic in Connecticut but I think the burrito was only/solely a Northern Mexico thing, the very north.

That area has a few solid spots, have not found a great option yet in bridgeport area though, will give this place a try
Mi Rancho is good, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

Mostly I make my own burritos. Leftover protein (chicken, steak, pork), some seasoning/sauce that fits with the original seasoning or my mood, black/refried beans, rice on occasion, cut up new potatoes or for fewer carbs, just more beans. I've done verde (best with chicken), red chili/hot or mild, BBQ, Buffalo/blue cheese, Cajun, Thai, whatever mood strikes you. Then I use the big Mission low carb burrito wrap, which is inferior from a taste perspective but half the calories and carbs.

Can you get a "better" burrito elsewhere? Yes. But mine are pretty good and fit my mood. It's such an easy thing to make. I don't put lettuce in one. If I want lettuce I just make tacos.

@80shusky
I love new milford. Parents moved there in late 80s and I graduated in 93.
I've lived in the Danbury area since high school in Ridgefield. Then in Danbury in apartments after UConn and now in New Fairfield. New Milford is an easy run up over the lake and it has some really nice spots.

My friend's Mike's house: crumbly hard taco shells filled with unseasoned ground beef, chopped lettuce and shreds of ice cold cheddar. ¡Muy auténtico! Only problem is you need a time machine to go back 40 years. But if you do, I'm sure his mom could fix you a plate with a burrito just as good.

Only good one I ever had was from Green grunion food truck. Used to be able to also get them at broken symmetry brewing or something in bethel but not anymore.

Los Portables in on South Main in Norwalk. Make there own chorizo. Burritos are a concession to the gringos who discovered the place (the old location in East Norwalk)

The whole area is very underrated for food.

Try ground bison, typical burrito seasoning (cumin, paprika, chili powder, oregano, salt, pepper). Brown it. Dice some peppers, onions and jalapenos and cook them down with the bison. Add a little tomato paste towards the end. Throw it into the carb balance with a little reduced fat cheese, a red salsa and light sour cream. Filthy macros and tastes great.

Hausteca in Windsor is a hole in the wall with fantastic Mexican food. Burritos are great. I think their simple street tacos are the star.

For the central CT area look of Salsa's and find the nearest one to you.
Go in to order for first timers because they offer a bunch more than the online menus that are written on boards

I like Salsa's 3 in Middletwon because it is close.

'La Placita' is another little gem in Middletown for a stacked burrito and other delicious Mexican offerings.
Plus a mini-grocery for all of your home cooking needs and desires.

Do you consider a burrito, hand food or do you use a knife and fork?

I always judge a place on their enchiladas. Burritos typically suck IMO.
A buddy of mine lived in Mexico City for a few years. He said restaurants were judged off their enchiladas suizas

Depends on how it is served. If it is served with a sauce or cheese on top, I use a fork. I have also had them served as hand held.

I have no interest in a burrito that needs to be cut up and eaten with a fork. I love burritos that are wrapped right and can be eaten as hand food.

Enchiladas are served with sauce or cheese on top and eat with a fork.
