OT- Vince McMahon Is Bringing Back The XFL

The UFL was an actual football league. The XFL is likely going to be very different

Why do you say that? It sounds like straight football?

I think the WWE TV rights are up for renewal soon and they get huge ratings. Maybe they have an opportunity to leverage that for their XFL deal.

I don't trust Vince McMahon to have football be the actual centerpiece. I feel like it's going to be like hard knocks on steroids as the main focus and the football will be secondary. Good coaches aren't going to want to deal with the absurdity.

I could be completely off base but that's just my opinion

He swears it will be a football focused league with simplified rules and a fast pace. Sounds good to me.

Then Rex Ryan is gonna be a head coach of one of those teams

the problem will be finding coaches. There are 774 college football head coaching jobs + the NFL throughout the country. If you are serious about football, you want one of those jobs, not a job in the XFL.
Built for coaches like Lane Kiffin

Likely think they’re better than the college game, too young/inexperienced/bad for the NFL

Nope, from everything reported so far it will be very similar to the UFL model, except for him owning all the teams.

I would not bet against this league getting some traction. I watched the first iteration closely and the 30 for 30 shed light on some of the issues. Vince has had many years to reflect and figure out how to do it right. No wrestling crossover. No one with a record. No broken bodies on the field.

People forget he came up with the camera on the field and on a wire. If he promises innovation and a quicker game, he will pique interest quickly. Ultimately, the football has to be played at a decent level- and I bet he gets this league to ultimately become a minor league feeder system for the NFL.

Garrett Brown developed Skycam and my friends company Winnercomm bought it from then in the early 2000's I can't remember the exact year. It may have been used by he XFL, but Garrett Brown for sure came up with it. Now did Garrett work for XFL when he created it, that I don't know.

It will have a better chance to succeed if the majority of teams are in the south. 8 teams is what they state. Plus if it is a February start league, best to be in Birmingham or Atlanta, than Philly or NYC

The best chance of success is to put teams where people will support it.

If they start the season the 3rd week of February they could just have the northern teams open up on the road for the first 2 weeks. 10 games + 2 bye weeks, the regular season would end mid-May. Not that much difference weather wise March-May vs. Sept-Nov

We have an empty domed stadium here in St. Louis. Waiting for our third professional team. I'm in.

No replay and id buy season tickets.

If you don't have replay review then you can't show replays on TV. Otherwise people are going to get pissed when the refs screw up

Sure you can. This happened in the past and life went on.

What will the draft entry rules be? Ramifications on NCAA?

Can you play in the XFL and maintain NCAA eligibility? Asking for a friend, right? ;)

Seriously though, the lowest paid guys in the XFL will probably be making around the same as the average SEC prospective-recruit

Lmao at not one, but two instances of TD replay review catch/not a catch ridiculousness last night.

And still nobody knows what is actually right.

As I Pats fan, I saw bobbling, bobbling a-plenty. As a fan of the game, I like the break the plane of the goal rule. Much cleaner and clearer.

As a Giant fan, I thought the Ertz catch was pretty clearly a TD, the Clement one...looked like some bobbling.

I thought both should stand though - I was rooting for New England fwiw.

The first review wasn't a catch in my book. By the time the receiver gained clear control, his left foot had already hit white. Ertz was a different story. He caught the ball on the 5, took three steps with clear possession and lost the ball in the endzone. By that time, it was already a TD.

For really old UConn alumni on the Boneyard, they will remember the ACFL, the Hartford Knights, playing at Dillon Stadium. The ACFL had affiliations with the NFL (Waterbury Jets, Lowell Giants.) It was a relatively thriving minor league.
I grew up with the USFL, with Keith Jackson calling NJ Generals games on ABC.
The AAFC has 8 teams in the south, starts play on the weekend after the Super Bowl on CBS, with local stations committed to broadcast games locally. There are many fans where there is no such thing as too much football.
Who on here watched the starting QB of the Jets play at the Rent for the Colonials in 2010? I don't think the reimagined XFL or AAFC will have trouble finding players wishing to put off the real world for another day, including some UConn players.
If they are smart unlike the USFL they will stay in the spring and cultivate a local following. The seasons of respective leagues end just as NFL and CFL camps are opening. I will be watching.

Games should last two hours with a one hour clock on each team. Your clock runs when you possess the ball. No time outs.

The game ends when the losing teams clock runs out.

I know there is talk of the xfl either eliminating halftime or making it like 3 minutes long. Less commercials will speed up game tremendously.

I went to a few games with my Dad. I still remember him bitching about paying for parking. Marv Hubbard went from the Knights to 3 Pro Bowls with the Raiders.
