OT: UNC player accepts $20k, now a question

Since this player accepted more than $20k (which is news, since the NCAA wasn't aware of that in the initial investigation) I'd like to know why the basketball program wasn't similarly banned as the football program was. This kid played bball for UNC, so why wasn't the bball team punished?

I know the money was funneled through Butch Davis, but this player was ineligible to play, and he played.

Maybe it was fake money, like the fake courses at UNC, so the NCAA doesn't care. Either that, or the NCAA is totally screwed up and punishes little things at some schools and ignores big violations at others (now that isn't possible, is it?).

Or may be they gave 20 k to a non athlete and that is a standard policy at North Carolina. Just a farce!

1. He received the money in 2010. His brief stint as a walk-on basketball player that only played in blowouts had ended a season or two prior to that.

2. The NCAA may not have been aware of the exact amount, but they were away of enough of the shenanigans between the agent and the embedded tutor (acting as an agency runner) to declare him ineligible in football.

3. While that brief article does not say it, other more lengthy articles indicate this news is not something earth shattering for the NCAA. The investigation is closed and they already handed out their punishments to UNC for the rules Little broke. What this news is really about is what laws that agent may have broken back in 2010, and what criminal charges he may face under North Carolina state law.

He didn't start breaking the NCAA rules and accepting money until he became a valuable football asset for agents to try and buy off. That did not occur until well after his brief stint as a walk-on at the end of UNC's bench had ended.

Also, you do not know the money was funneled though Butch Davis... because the money was not funneled through Butch Davis. This player was not ineligible to play basketball at the time he sat at the end of UNC's bench either. You don't seem to have a full grasp on the situation based on your post. You might read the lengthy NCAA report to learn the facts.
