I've seen Breaking Away on a few lists & it prompted me to look it up as I had never heard if it. Definitely going to watch it - the trailer looks really interesting... It's got Kelly from the Bad News Bears too...

Lots if great suggestions - a lot of the movies I really liked that I though no one else did (love of the game, Mr Barseball come to mind.

Surprised no one mentioned Kingpin - much funnier (and about an actual sport) than Dodgeball. Also, by the liberal definition some have , I'd add The Big Lebowski.

For those of you who liked the movie Seabiscuit, I would STRONGLY recommend reading the Laura Hllenbrand book it was based on if you haven't already. Masterful storytelling.

In no particular order:
Field of Dreams (I'm another guy that cries when he plays catch with his Dad)
Bang the Drum Slowly (A little surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet)
Miracle

I also really like Hoosiers, Slapshot, Caddyshack... haven't seen Breaking Away in a long time probably will watch it again thanks to this. :)

Bagger Vance
Cinderella Man thought I'd mention it
Jerry Macguire

no soccer movies? How about "A Shot at Glory" and "Bend it Like Beckham."

I liked the Bagger Vance story but you can't have a guy who swings like Matt Damon play a key part, he was putrid..........kind of like trying to sell Levar Burton for Ron LeFlore!!

Or Tony Perkins catching a baseball with his wrists pressed together.

Longest Yard - Original

Remember the Titans

The Deadliest Season - the movie sucked, but my father was in it for about 30 seconds

The Golden Moment
The Fish that Saved Pittsburg
Miracle on Ice

Honorable Mention
Rocky I and II
Hoosiers
Fast Break

Interesting, reading this thread makes me realize sports movies are pretty unremarkable overall. I can't think of 1 sports movie I'd put in my fav 20 movies.

I will look up top 250 on IMDB and see which ones make overall list.

Best sports movies pre-1970:
It Happens Every Spring
Angels in the Outfield
Damn Yankees
Champion
Pride of the Yankees
Jim Thorpe: All-American

Best modern Sports Movies:
Downhill Racer
Bull Durham
White Men Can't Jump
Field of Dreams
Raging Bull
Tin Cup
Slapshot
Hoosiers
Chariots of Fire
The Longest Yard

Honorable Mention:
The Natural
Cinderella Man
Rudy
He Got Game
Every Sunday (only for the Pacino half-time speech)
North Dallas Forty

Cuba Gooding in Radio was pretty good. As was a fave of mine because it was funny...Wildcats with Goldy Hawn.

Remember the Titans and Miracle have to be 1-2 in some order.

There's a lot of really good movies battling for #3.

Rudy
Bad News Bears 2 - Breaking Training
The Greatest Game Ever Played

no soccer movies? How about "A Shot at Glory" and "Bend it Like Beckham."

I had Victory as my honorable mention.

Sylvester Stallone, Michael Kaine, and Pele!

Field of Dreams
Fear Strikes Out
Seabiscuit, tied with The Natural, and the Lou Gehrig Story

Top 5:
Hoosiers
Rudy
Happy Gilmore
Rocky Balboa
Remember the Titans

1. Vision Quest
2. Raging Bull
3. Rocky

Yes I was hoping I wasnt gonna be the only one to mention Vision Quest, an alltime classic. Nothing like Loudin Swain and Brian Schute going at it.

1. Friday Night Lights (gets me every time - I thought it was incredible how they captured that sub culture of how much high school football takes over life in Texas)
2. Cinderella Man
3. Happy Gilmore
