That really sucks he was on a short list of bands/singers I wanted to see in concert. Hands down one of the greatest classic rock bands ever can listen to them for hours. Will be greatly missed may he Rest In Peace.

Dang, thats truly a drag. Just watched The Postman the other night (it was late, couldn't sleep), had no idea he was in it, as himself no less in a post apocalyptic world. RIP

Really liked his music.

Refugee is an outstanding rock song.

I will always associate American Girl with Fast Times at Ridgmont High.

Oh no! Way, way too soon. Loved Petty with the Heartbreakers and on the Travelling Willburys. Really distinctive sound.

He's on my list of great "mood" musicians. Like Nirvana when I want to feel edgy. Gin Blossoms when I want to feel melancholy. Zep to feel up. Clash to feel rebellious. and so on. Tom Petty was my "chill out" choice. Always relaxed me. Also a great go-to on the juke box if you have no real song in mind. Many, many cool tunes from which to choose.

Now Tom . . . .

Into the great wide-open, under them skies of blue.

RIP. Thanks for all of the wonderful music and moods you sent my way. :(

I saw him in the early 90s. One of best shows I ever attended. Big loss to music today

Only 40% of the TWs are still around.

This sucks.

What a day.
