OT: The game is Just too Rough

Sally Jenkins has a column in the WaPo this morning saying largely the same thing you did. The W is squandering an opportunity to keep the momentum up by turning the game into a slugfest.

An interesting stat she included: halfway through the season there have been 141 injuries. 174 players have played in the league this year (about 150 at any particular time).
Can all of those injuries be attributed to physical play? That seems like a large assumption when some injuries (e.g. rolled ankle from stepping on a foot) happen regardless of physicality.

It's just a number I found interesting, no assumption on my part.

In the column, it did have some quotes from Steph White (the column was VERY Fever-centric, as is Jenkins's wont) in which she said that rough play does lead to players acquiring different habits. They plant differently, move slightly differently if they expect to be hit, etc. I actually heard the same thing on NPR yesterday in the context of Achilles injuries in the NBA, this from an orthopaedic surgeon who studies and treats Achilles injuries. I dunno that White was saying there was a cause and effect, but the surgeon was definitely saying it wrt. those injuries.

I'm losing confidence in Cathy Engelbert (not that I knew much about her in the past)
Seems not responsive to ref issues....at least not in public
And now the unsatisfactory start to contract negotiations ...
At least from the player's perspective.

My comment about assumption was about the author using that stat, not you specifically. I can see it having some impact, but how much is hard to say.
