OT: Super bowl Prediction/Discussion Thread.

How did I say they're more balanced? They're 2nd in rushing offense and 24th in passing offense. That's the exact opposite of "balanced".

You're being quoted Denver's defensive ranks because you said "I don't think Denver has ever seen an offense like Carolina's this year." The Denver D is not going to be steamrolled by Carolina's offense. Make book on that.

Very good. You know how to cut and paste. Point of procedure: One doesn't mean the other and I never said anything remotely close to "Carolina's offense is going to steamroll Denver's D."

I said, "...Before I hear any hype I kinda see Carolina winning this in a walk." Winning in a walk means a lot of things, but one thing it definitely considers is all facets of the game, including the fact that Carolina's D's (not exactly sub par in it's own right) is facing the 2015 version of Peyton Manning.

Cam Newton was #31 in the NFL in rushing yards and #16 in passing. What one player did Denver face who was that dynamic? Answer: No one. And do you think for a second that Carolina's pass offense couldn't have rack up more yards than they did? They went 15-1, with a 13 point margin of victory. What do most teams do when the game is all but won, especially with a back like Jonathan Stewart? they keep the clock moving and make the game shorter.

No. I don't think that Carolina's pass offense could have racked up much more. For your point about being far ahead in games, I counter with:

b) Ted Ginn is an all-or-nothing deep threat. 44 catches, 739 yds, 10 tds. Avg yds per catch of 17 yds. They wouldn't be throwing bombs much more and, if they did, he only caught 44 passes all year. Cotchery and Funchess are limited in what they would have ever produced above what they already did.

You counter with the catching deficiencies of running backs. Interesting debate strategy. Why risk an incomplete pass (even if they, as a group, have a 80% completion percentage) and a stopped clock, when you can just hand the ball off, gain 4.1 yards, and run 40 seconds off the clock?

Las Vegas made their bones on the stupidity of John Q Public and the sharks are just sitting out there waiting for the line to move north. And the farther it gets from the opening line, the better shot they have of hitting both sides (ex: Carolina wins by 5 and they have Denver +5.5 as well as Carolina -3.5) and that is a nightmare for Vegas.

This, this, this. The late "smart" money had Denver beating the Pats. I think 70% of the money was bet on the Patriots. The professional sports bettors waited until the last minute to put their cash on Denver. The casinos also cleaned up because they "gambled" on a Denver win/cover.

I don't see how Denver wins against Carolina, honestly. That being said, I would put my money on the Broncos, simply because I have more confidence in the public's stupidity than in my smarts.

I love Denver straight up in this one.

• Everyone is calling it lopsided and predicting a blowout. That never plays out.
• The Panthers have that look about them that they're way too happy right now. And Rivera said he wants them to enjoy the next two weeks.
• Peyton gets two weeks to study film. You know he's going to put everything he has into that effort.
• Denver has huge game breakers on their side with Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders. For some reason, people are underplaying that a bit.
• Wade Phillips is an idiot of a head coach, but a heckuva defensive coordinator. If he can find a way to neutralize Brady in 1 week, he can figure out how to hem in Newton over 2 weeks.
• I'd be shocked if Carolina comes out as hot as they have been in recent weeks in the 1st half. The SB is a different animal. Prolonged pre-game, lots of adrenaline expended before the game starts, everyone is tight in the first 10 minutes.

Carolina -4.5 is a sucker bet, kids.

As I said the past 2 weeks - keep Newton in the pocket and you take all his weapons away
Unless Carolina changes some things, their dominance will be one season only.

Turnover put them on a shortfield time and again. It's not like Manning played well either.

It's the motherf-ckin Super Bowl. You play a game where injuries are an inevitability. This isn't a game for a team that's 2-10 with nothing to play for. In the super bowl I would expect every single player to do anything they can to pull it out. You make millions of dollars, and winning the game will likely make you more money. You have to try to break tackles, it's the last game of the year.

I wouldnt be surprised if this was the worst QB performance a superbowl team has had when you look at the season as a whole. The stats are just embarrassing and highlight just how good this defense was all season.
