We wore New Balance shoes on our walk across the country. My wife was on her third pair after the 5,000 miles, she got roughly 2,000 miles out of a pair. Usually New Balance have several models of the same general type of shoe and at a shoe outlet store you're bound to find at least one for under $60. I would get an all-terrain model built for stability (models are also built for cushioning or one other attribute I can't recall at the moment). New Balance also has the distinction of once again being made in America.

Disclaimer: I got significantly less mileage. I have pronation that wears out the inside of heels much faster. I "only" got about 1,000 miles per pair.

On edit: Oops. You got me.
You walked across the country?

I've got to hear this story. Why did you walk cross country? When? Let's hear it.

Thank you! You and Fishy have something in common. The hike went from May 2011 to May 2012 ... didn't you miss me during that time?! lol I'm still giving talks if you want me to give one at your school.

I'd personally love to meet you, but I am fairly certain there is something in my contract that prevents me from bringing anyone from the 'yard to school.

Morals clause.

That's ironic, considering that my talks are about kindness and community across the country and the virtues of humility, courage, responsibility, etc. Hey! Isn't the Boneyard just one big, loving community?

I was just being a wisea$$, in reply to Tom's wisea$$ comment.

It sounds like a very cool thing you did, and I'm sure people are interested to hear about it.

I was "mapper," back in the day when I was a GIS manager. Ironically, the only person I've spent time with from the Boneyard was "mappy" (I also met Wonkster and Nuzzi once in Madison Square Garden). I don't know if mappy's gone or has a different handle. People often confused us on here. He was very witty, I was more reflective.

Weren't you thinking of joining me once on a summer hike of the New England AT?

Thanks. According to the testimonials I receive people are very interested. Unfortunately, I'm not very good about contacting schools/organizations or promoting myself. I'm actually starting to plan a walk around the world.

If this is meant to be a serious thread, then I'll throw in my 2 cents as a sneaker lover...

for just hanging out, wearing around, you can't get better than any Nike Free versions, I prefer 3.0. They are so comfortable and I love the look. Bball shoes that are stylish and comfortable and also good to play in: the new Kevin Durant vi are awesome in looks, comfort, and performance. And any jordans that have been retroed are always good shoes to just kick around in.

I remember a thread where you threw that out there as an idea but I didn't take you up on an offer. You're too hard core.
