Too bad, so sad for LSU. I guess a diet of nothing but cupcakes isn't very healthy. Averaging 100+ pts per game and score 61 when they play a real team. Go Shea! Go Vandy! Blakes looked like an All-American. Watching her get mugged time and time again when cutting without the ball reminded me of what happened to Paige in many games. Going to be lots of competition at the guard spot. Lack of minutes for Azzi could be a problem!
I think Azzi has her eyes on winning another championship, she wants to have one up on Paige lol.

I don't think the NCAA has the authority to force a school to spend millions of dollars to redesign a court that's been in service for 75 years. They can and should enforce the existing rule about Mulkey wondering onto the court.
The ref had to run around in back of her one time, as she got a warning she was standing in front of the ref mouth wide open, arms waving at her sides like a baby bird begging for a worm. I always look forward to seeing wht crazy outfit she's wearing. She's a hoot!

I would bet that UConn has a plan in place for when Geno retires. With the players he has and those coming in next season and the season following Im sure the recruits have asked when you are going to retire. The recruits come to UConn to be coached by Geno. If Geno retires, would they leave? Stay? What reasons would they need to stay if Geno is gone or will Geno stay on with lesser duties? Alot of questions which Im sure Geno and UConn have answered. WIth all the NIL money out there Geno is still getting the top players because its more than the money. The money will come to those who have earned it. Look at what has happened over the past few injuries filled years. Now look at UConn the past 2 years getting healthy and their defense. UConn is a very professional powerful team. I think more than anything right now they are about invincible as the Stewie era teams. Their defense is at a level that not many have seen in this sport ever. Geno is a great great recruiter. He doesnt get them all but he gets enough really good players and molds them into what he wants. Those who are willing to pay the price find out its worth it. His records speak for themselves.

Based on her performance yesterday, her scheduling, and her team in general, it makes me think she’s in the twilight of her career.

Yep. Don't put yourself in a position to be victimized by a bad call.
Hmmm..where have I seen this before?? Ahhaaa. 2021 Elite Eight matchup between Baylor and UCONN. Paige was getting mugged all game by DiJonai and Baylor with minimum calls, but there was a big uproar on the last shot by her. Foul? What foul? Some how, Kim is always in the mix.

I like the thought, but I think it is somewhat presumptuous to think or assume that she would want to come back to UConn to replace Geno. Isn't she making her own way at Vandy? Team's getting better every year, facilities are great, didn't they just open a new facility, great academic school, hot city in Nashville, husband and family thriving.
I think Sue Bird would be perfect for UConn.
One other major reason for her to stay at Vandy is the taxes are a lot lower in Tennessee than Connecticut.😊

.-.
So, Mulkey didn't know the rule either. She could have appealed and it being an obvious call, she would not have been assessed a technical. I'm talked about the play at the side OB line.
I think Kim knew the rule perfectly well. In her postgame interview, as I understood her, she complained that there was a natural break in the action that would have allowed the refs to review the tape on their own without her having to call for it.

All that is true but I don’t blame her for being upset about it! For that matter, from what I saw, she didn’t make a big deal about it! In the postgame interview she merely responded to a question by saying she had asked for a review. I personally think there should be a review of game changing calls in the last minute of the game!
How would you work a review like that when the whistle was not blown and play continued? Would the coach be allowed to charge onto the floor and stop play? Would all baskets that were made between when the disputed play occurred and when play finally stopped be wiped out?

To paraphrase a lyric by Old Blue Eyes from the song you reference that might apply to LSU:

Riding high in December, Shot down in January……
Hey, Dude:

the lyric is:
You're riding high in April, shot down in May

your rhyme and rhythm scheme didn’t quite work
I didn’t recall the the exact months…had to look it up

No, she couldn't appeal it. Not becuase she was out of TOs, but becasue it was a non call - not appealable (in a formal sense). I think she was exhorting them to take a look at the replay, but I'm not sure they could do that without a good reason.

Geno has said many times in the past that if you need a foul call in order to win the game you don’t deserve to win
Or, cf. UConn v. Iowa, NCAA Final Four 2024: If you lose a game because of a questionable (not clearly bad) call, then you didn't deserve to win it. I think both Geno and Paige made essentially that point in their post-game remarks.

.-.

I'm not sure I understand the point of this video clip. It looks to me like she's standing in the correct spot in this clip. I was referring to other clips where she's wandered onto the court. I don't think that's permitted although we know the refs cut a little slack which is good because Geno does it to. But the clip I saw which is what I thought someone was referring to was her quite a ways out on the floor.

I was aware of the actual lyrics, but changed them to fit LSU’s recent performance. In addition, Rhyming is highly overrated……..,

They were not allowed to review that non-call.

I actually think that Geno said virtually the same thing as my post above after the game. Don't put yourself in a position where the ref calling a bad foul, decides the game, then you don't have to worry about it. For what it's worth, he also said he called the wrong play.

Shea should get the offer before anyone else. If she turns it down, I’m not sure where to go from there. Carla Berube perhaps? If they wanted to be daring I would take a look at Molly Miller at Az St. She has won big everywhere she’s been.

I love Sue, Dee, Maya etc as much as anyone but they have no coaching experience and just because you were a great player does not mean you would be a good coach. They need Shea! If they get the right coach, maybe we can minimize the post legend doldrums and keep UConn at or near the top. I’m for Shea, then (it sounds ridiculous I know) I would look at Molly Miller. She’s young, dynamic, and a brilliant coach.

This is 100% true. The real issue is when the refs have like 20 missed calls. It isn't reasonable to expect a team to overcome that. 2018 Final Four game vs. ND........

Ah so!

LOL, come on, there is no way that Shea will be leaving Vandy. She revived a past great program, something the past coaches (including Steph White) could not do. Vandy went from bottom feeder to top 10 in four years. This is now her program, in the best conference (according to them), starting to get the support from the fans, and she is down south where she grew up. The administration has shown that they are all in on WBB, so to find a school, a great academic school at that, that supports her is hard to find, so Shea would be not thinking clearly to move back north.

Re: Shea as future UConn coach - has CT's state rules on nepotism changed?
Afaik, state employees can't supervise direct family members. I remember that there were issues with Edsall's son being hired to his coaching staff because of that.
I think it's unlikely Shea's going to move from Vandy because of her current (good and getting better) situation there but not being able to work with hubby Tom might be the dealbreaker.

.-.
I think UConn has a pretty good coach right now who I don’t think is going anywhere for a while.
So long as Geno stays healthy, I think that’s true. He still enjoys coaching and the associations with his players, past & present. I also think that once a recruit makes a commitment to play at UConn, Geno makes a real commitment to develop that recruit for the next 4 years. It’s a recurring cycle with no end. 😎

This is true, as I can attest, but within limits. I stayed on in my teaching post past ordinary retirement age because I still enjoy working with students. But there are other factors that work against that pleasure, like colleagues and admins. A time will come, and for me it’s isn’t very far off, when the tradeoff will no longer be in the favor of continuing.

Interesting to note former FB coach Jim Mora has hired one of his sons at CSU. Maybe it was an issue here.

Let's just hope they (LSU) aren't back on top in March.
