My brother in Meriden just emailed that things "are getting dicey". (7:00pm)
 
We've lost power three times but only once was long enough to start the generator. Power is on right now...

I only communicated with her after #1. But given that she posted on Facebook after #3, I'd guess the people inside were okay, but the house is a mess. And we are 15 miles off the coast.
 
well, I'm in upper Manhattan, away from the real problems, but still not having any fun. Cantore better get a move on...that water is coming in fast (watching the weather channel)

Still have power here in Manchester, but it was an incredibly frustrating day of working at home. All CT locations of my company were closed. We were told if you had the ability to work from home to do so, but if you chose not to you had to take a PTO day. Those who did not have the ability to work remote did not have to take a vacation day. But, the remote VPN couldn't handle the volume of people working remotely so a lot of those trying to work from home couldn't. Not sure if they will get charged a vacation day or not. For me, I got connected before the max log in threshold was met, but it was frustrating and slow. And OF COURSE there was crisis after crisis. I so badly wanted to just bag it and call it a day, but when you work for a property-casualty insurer and you support the claim application and business operations that handle the claims coming out of the storm, I just couldn't do it. I am done playing Superwoman for today. I stopped enough speeding bullets, leaped enough tall buildings in a single bound. Now I am just hoping the power stays on so I can relax and watch some tv. I'll be asleep by 8:15....
 
My sister-in-law was here, and just left a few minutes ago. We lost power again, and I heard a loud crack at the same time. A couple minutes later, my SIL came back to the house, because she saw huge branch come down right in front of her, taking down some wires. We're on a dead end street, and I was just thinking she is trapped in here, then I realized, so are we. If she has left 10 seconds earlier, she would be past it but if she left three seconds earlier, she would have been under it. Her significant other works for CL&P, so we are hoping for good service getting it fixed.
 
No power in Ridgefield. Trees down everywhere. On generator for now. This storm is no joke.
 
Still have power in Fairfield County and in Griswold..... Guess I'm a little lucky to have power in both places
 
As expected not much of anything here in W. Mass. Some spotty power outages, but thankfully not mine. Left for work this morning with blue skies over my house. Prayers and best wishes for those who actually have to cope with this storm.
 
No cable so no phone and no Internet, except iPad. I miss my Internet. We can't go anywhere, and no one can come here until tree on road is removed

My "caveman" fears for the New York subways seems to have been picled up by Reuters. It doesn't have to take much of a sailor (that's me) to know that when sea water gets into your electrical system, you're in for a big problem.
Let's see when they can get the system up...a week, two, more? This will be a real test of Bloomberg's management skills.
They're going to have to make this one up as they go along (a transport plan). The lack of power will certainly not help.
i'm waiting for the conference in which they will spill the beans.

Is it my imagination or are you assuming everyone is unprepared and clueless?
 
I have thankfully survived without losing power in Ellington. Made it through Irene too. The phantom wet snowstorm of a year ago was far worse.
 
We are no longer trapped, they just moved the downed tree, but no power or cable yet.
 
Just saw my boat is still in one piece...:) It was on land, with the drain plug out, but with 2 bilge pumps still connected, and parked about 6 ft above high tide. I was thinking all night the water was going to be 10+ ft with the storm surge and my pumps would keep the boat afloat long enough to let the boat float off the jacks, and get blown away, then the batteries would go dead ... the pumps stop, and sink somewhere...:( Feel much better today...

My thoughts exactly. I think those of us in Ellington lucked out. Last year we were without power or heat for one week, this year we never lost it. My main concern were falling trees, especially after reading Phil's post and remembering the trees separating our house from our neighbor's next door. I'm glad this one's over and hope that this does not turn into an annual event :eek:

(after reading some of the accounts from last night and seeing some of the pictures of the aftermath, I haven't stopped counting my blessings.)
 
Live in Newtown. It's a disaster. 97 percent of town without power. Two big trees down on our road. We are stuck because the road is a dead end. Generator is running and we have enough propane for five days.

Stay safe out there. It's still dangerous.
 
We were lucky. Lost wireless for a bit, but that's all. Many big trees on my street all survived, while, as I posted, a friend had 3 trees hit her house less than a mile from me, one, per a photo she sent, had a limb go right through her bedroom roof. Scary.

ETA: She just texted that she and her family had to move into a hotel.
 
No power loss or significant damage that I am aware of in
Middletown. I think we were a little lucky that the storm
hit in southern rather than northern NJ.
 
The Jersey shore appears to be decimated. Such a shame. As someone who used to spend a lot of time there during the summer, I have to say this is a heartbreaking and devastating loss.

Luckily, not too much damage in Connecticut. Trees down and power out in the surrounding area. Thank goodness!

We live across the lawn from Long Island Sound. Mandatory evacuation area. Not wanting to emulate Harry Randall Truman, we got out. This afternoon, we went back during low tide and found our house unscathed. Lost 5 large trees, but they didn't hit anything. A couple tons of rocks, shells, lumber and other debris on the lawn, and holes in the seawall, but the media made us feel like the house might be toast, so we were happy with what we found. Actually, the severity was about the same of the December 1992 nor'easter. Just about the same debris line on the lawn for both storms.
 
I live in Torrington, never lost power, although according to the paper, 31 % of Torrington was out of power. No power in much of Falls Village, but we have a giant generator where I work.

Pray for those in New Jersey, New York, and the Connecticut shore, as well as all affected by the storm.
 
I'M BACK, BABY!! Power just returned and no major damage... good to go!

I just drove around a bit after coming back from Shelton...Was surprised at the number of trees down compared to my street.. I didn't think Stratford was hit too hard before seeing more of it, but just saw online, 8400 are still out of power here.
