OT: Restaurant advice needed (Storrs)

For many years after graduation we regularly visited Tony's in Willimantic. I always liked them. Willington is good as well, but in the wrong direction from where I live in Norwich.
No idea how any of them are now, but Tony's was the best in the area for my tastes in the late 80's. Loved their meatball pizza (especially with fresh sliced tomatoes). Thought Willington was decent but nothing special.
 
Remember Pesaro's? Easily the worst non-frozen (unless it was) pizza I have ever sampled.

Best in the area in the early 80's was Mama's in Willimantic.

Ah Pizarro's. I certainly remember them. Not exactly what I would consider quality, as you suggest. After a while, anytime anyone would mention ordering from them, my stock phrase would be "yes, please slide it under the door!". Too bad I never actually said that to one of their delivery guys. I think they went out of business in the early to mid 80's.

We used to alternate among Mama's and Papa's as well, until we settled in as regulars for many years at Tony's. My future wife and I really liked their canadian bacon topping for their pizza. Sadly, they don't offer it now. These days we might drop in about once a year. It seems these days if we eat in the Willimantic area we end up at Angelino's. Altnaveigh near UConn is also very good, but is also rather expensive.

There was nothing quite like that pizza. How did they get the crust to be that slimy and rubbery?
 
Get Wings Express delivered to the picnic tables on Horsebarn Hill, then head to the dairy bar.

Troy House kitchen. Recommend the Grade D steak, grilled to shoe leather perfection, laced with lighter fluid.

I lived in Shakespeare/Troy for two years and you are right about the meat. The boxes stated Grade C or D meat and fit for institutions. But, our chef (I think his name was Steve), would make you homemade omelettes and other "good" stuff if the day's menu was particularly disturbing. It was as good as anything out of a typical diner. They closed that dining hall my 3rd semester and then it was off to South and the other neighboring dining halls for a slightly better version of the grade D mystery meat.
 
The kids would probably LOVE Willington Pizza. Lots of pictures of our famous Alumni on the walls & the pizza is very good. Cheap(er) out for the adults as well & LOTS of room.
 
There's always Kathy John's. That was our go to when I was a kid. Drove by recently, and it didn't look like anyone was even in the parking lot. So no lines!

The sign also seemed to be missing, so perhaps people just drove by it, not knowing it was there.

I think it closed years ago... It's a gas station now.
 
Where the love for gumbys? That place still there? Truly terrible, but nobody cared when satisfying the munchies.
 
We ate at Kathy Johns once, the food was inedible, paid the bill and left. I can believe they closed not too long after.
